About the role

As a Senior Manager in Strategy&'s Retail & Consumer team, you are a leading thought-partner to clients, solving problems and running the day-to-day activities of client engagements. You will lead teams, with a focus on effective delivery, problem solving, building client relationships and managing the personal development of others. Working with consultants from across our global offices, you will have the opportunity to interact with leading international clients across the R&C industry.

On projects, you are the point-of-contact for client stakeholders and you will manage daily activities of the team to deliver project milestones. Typical daily activities will include structuring client problems, story-boarding project approaches and coordinating multiple workstreams.

Engaging with the Strategy& and Private Sector community is key to growing our firm; participating in thought leadership and building new initiatives based on personal interests are some of the many ways Strategy& members continue to develop the business.

As a part of Strategy&, you will support clients in developing their capabilities across functions, whether it is strategy development, capabilities assessment or transforming the way the company works within the industry.

Key Role and Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Partner and Principal/Director team, key responsibilities are to manage individual work-streams on client assignments, structure the work schedule and support driving each assignment to a successful conclusion
  • Producing clear, persuasive and concise documents for senior audiences
  • Planning and managing the delivery of quality work as part of the project team
  • Directing the quantitative analysis, assessing the depth required for an individual work-stream on each assignment, translating the analysis into useful findings and quality assuring the results in conjunction with project leadership
  • Work with project leadership to define the source and level of data gathering necessary and judge the necessity of client interviews and the strategic content of those interviews
  • Responsible for managing the development of junior team members (internal and client) during the length of each project and identifying opportunities for them to grow and build their skills
  • Building productive and lasting client relationships at all levels
  • Building productive and lasting relationships within the PwC Network at all levels and be seen as a valued member of the office community -contributing to internal, firm-building activities proactively

Requirements

  • We are seeking to recruit a highly experienced Consumer or Retail professional with a clear record of achievement and progression in both a leading consulting firm and a blue chip consumer goods focussed corporate environment.
  • The Consultant must be intellectually curious, demonstrate strong problem solving skills, feel comfortable working with large amounts of quantitative data taking a structured, hypothesis driven approach and be able to lead consulting teams and assignments
  • Candidates must have extensive FMCG industry experience in Business Strategy and Operations teams within Consumer Goods and/or Retail and will be expected to demonstrate functional expertise across a range of Consumer and Retail topics with a deep focus on one or more topics such as;
    • Business Strategy, Market Growth Strategy, Route to Market Strategy, Sales and Marketing Strategy, Digital Marketing, Operational Improvement.
  • The successful applicant will have extensive FMCG experience and will have executed projects in both developed (e.g. Europe) and emerging markets (for example Africa, Latin America).
  • Educated to post-graduate level in Economics, Mathematics or Business, they will be highly numerate and must be a highly motivated self-starter.
  • Strong functional expertise in Consumer goods and/or Retail
  • Thought leader in consumer or retail strategy and operations processes / practices; viewed by clients as an expert who they turn to for help and advice on their most difficult issues
  • Strong change and people leadership skills, track record of successful change execution and an exemplary track record in providing client satisfaction
  • A strong team player with empathy, humility and dedication to joint success and shared development
  • Exceptional analytical skills with documented experience of the ability to solve unstructured problems involving large amounts of quantitative data with a structured and hypothesis driven approach
  • Candidates must demonstrate strong leadership skills and experience of managing functionally, geographically and culturally diverse teams
  • Undergraduate degree from a top tier university, likely to Masters level
  • Significant international experience including Europe, North America, Latin America and Africa
  • Excellent client handling skills with experience of leading external client projects and/ or large scale strategy and operations change programmes
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with ability and flexibility to operate successfully from boardroom to shop floor.
