A large UK utilities provider is seeking a Business Development Director to be based in Reading.

You will be responsible for developing the market entry strategy, working out the most efficient way to integrate our widespread capabilities and developing opportuities with a cross section of the business, including a dedicated team.

Specific responsibilities will include analysing the market, developing our proposition, defining our partnering strategy, internal reporting at all levels, managing a direct team, co-ordinating individual business verticals, identifying opportunities, managing client and wider stakeholder relationships and leading bid and development teams to secure contracts and partnerships with public and private sector organisations across the UK.

The role -

  • Planning, building and managing a P&L that will deliver in excess of GBP100m within five years
  • Building market entry strategy and market leading proposition for our key client types, including the finalisation of our partnering strategy
  • Working with business development resources to develop, manage and deliver a significant pipeline of significant (GBP50k+) deals
  • Developing a joined up, integrated approach across our multiple business units to efficiently develop wide-reaching projects from initial client meeting to delivery sign off
  • Develop multi-business unit business development strategy and process which enables top-down opportunities and adds value to bottom-up opportunities
  • Management of a dedicated team, as well as resource allocated from various business units
  • Manage internal reporting outputs at all levels, ranging from immediate team through to Enterprise level MD, to ensure buy-in from key individuals across the business
  • Monitoring the market to identify emerging technologies and solutions which they can exploit
  • Develop and manage a wide client base (specifically local authorities, universities, large companies) and other key stakeholders (such as consultants, policy makers and development managers) network
  • Bring client drivers and market intelligence to all propositions/bids in this sector
  • Co-ordinate and ensure the client relationship is managed throughout the proposition/bid and negotiation process ensuring that client's requirements and drivers are reflected in submissions
  • Direct responsibility for ensuring propositions/bids successfully transition from initial bid to contract signature stage
  • Ensure that technical and commercial solutions best reflect the client's requirements
  • Ensure that technical and commercial solutions meet our financial performance requirements
  • Drive a lessons learned culture across propositions/bids
