Job Introduction

GrimsbyLive is looking for an enthusiastic reporter brimming with ideas to join our busy newsroom.

GrimsbyLive and its daily print edition, The Grimsby Telegraph, covers a terrific news patch with great community engagement. We deliver stories that people want to read, whether that's breaking news, in-depth features and investigations or the latest sport and entertainment.

The role will be based in the Grimsby newsroom, located in the heart of the town. The North East Lincolnshire area includes the busy industrial port towns of Grimsby and Immingham, the lively seaside resort of Cleethorpes (the most tagged location outside London on Instagram!) and the surrounding rural villages in the Lincolnshire Wolds.

Every day our newsbrands - national and regional, in print and online - reach millions of people up and down the country. We are the UK's largest news publisher, with influential national newsbrands such as the Daily Mirror, Daily Express, Sunday People, Daily Record, and more than 100 distinguished regional titles.

Our brands have a long heritage of being trusted sources of news and information, with our editorial conviction and high standards of journalism providing audiences with timely information and opinion across multiple platforms.

Last year we sold 540 million newspapers, and our network of over 70 websites provide 24/7 coverage of news, sport and showbiz stories, viewed by 110m unique browsers every month.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will play a key role in our digital news operation while supporting our print platform and be tasked with providing our audience with interesting content presented through a combination of writing, pictures, video and interactive elements.

Work will include reacting quickly and accurately to breaking news and being able to find content for live blogs as well as developing engaging break out articles and follow-up stories.

The Ideal Candidate

A journalism qualification, ideally to NCTJ standard, is required for this role and candidates must have recognised training in media law. Those candidates with shorthand will be at an advantage.

Skills will include a flair for spotting stories, developing ideas and writing quickly to a high standard. All candidates must have extensive experience of identifying and cultivating stories using social media platforms and online.

Good organisation and communication skills are required as well as an ability to work both individually and on your own initiative as well as with a close team.

This job will suit an enthusiastic new graduate or a trainee looking to progress their career.

Submission of examples or links to previous work is highly recommended to assist in the shortlisting process.

Candidates will require a driving licence.
