Southend-on-Sea Borough Council have an exciting opportunity for an outcome focused and experienced Highways Engineer to join their Traffic Management and Highways Network team.
Your new role
You will work within the assigned team across both the Major Projects & Strategic Transport Policy & Traffic & Highway Groups to undertake the lead on various road safety and highway maintenance projects and schemes, taking scheme responsibility from inception to completion. You'll advise on service plans, projects plans, procurement, technical and legislative requirements to work to meet the council priorities, also undertaking management of team members including appraisals and necessary day to day support for the development of individuals.
What you'll need to succeed
You'll possess a strong understanding and knowledge of working in a similar role with site supervision experience possessing highway routine maintenance and road safety scheme knowledge for resurfacing/micro-resurfacing programmes and planned maintenance data analysis. You will have master planning, feasibility studies, design consultation planning and implementation management experience. On occasion it will be your responsibility to oversee the design process and to prepare contract documents, committee reports and to comply with health and safety legislation including CDM 2015.
What you'll get in return
This is a fixed term position and the expectation is that the initial contract will run for 24 months with the likelihood to become permanent. The role will be offered on a permanent basis but may also be offered on a daily rate for the right candidate, which will be based on your skills and experience if you are the successful applicant.
