Design Engineer

The Company

Our client is a high profile capital equipment business looking to expand their Design Department.

The Role

Reporting to the Design Manager, you will be involved in a variety of projects ranging from bespoke developments, to modification design for a variety of medium to large sized excavators. These will require an appreciation and understanding of hydraulic, structural and electrical aspects of engineering, as well as relevant regulations and law, to maintain product compliance.

Working within multi-disciplined teams you will be responsible for creating concepts, 3D layouts and drawings, prototype parts, and evaluating performance and durability test results to deliver projects on a quality, cost and delivery basis. You will also carry out detailed analysis of components, systems and products identifying cost reduction, product/quality improvements and warranty reduction opportunities within the Business.

The Requirements

The successful candidate will be degree qualified in an engineering related subject with previous experience of working in a design, project-led manufacturing, or engineering environment, ideally in a heavy engineering industry.

Candidates who have experience designing smaller components into larger systems are also of interest. An appreciation of integrating electrical and hydraulic components is of interest, although not essential as training can be provided.

You will demonstrate an appreciation for health and safety and quality along with strong communication and organisation skills. You will be flexible, committed with a pro-active approach to solving problems throughout the plant. You will need 3D modelling and component drawing experience, and an aptitude to analyse FEA models would be beneficial.
