We have a fantastic opportunity for a Head Chef to lead our busy kitchen team to deliver the highest standards of food to our 75 residents, some of whom have specialist dietary requirements.

This sounds great, tell me more…!

Penylan House is a luxury Nursing Home operating in the not-for-profit sector. Alongside our excellent standards of Care, we pride ourselves on our luxury facilities and recognise the vital role that food plays in the lives of residents. Striving to ensure that every mealtime is a positive and fulfilling experience, you will lead the kitchen to maintain a luxury hotel standard and in line with HACCAP, health & safety and care regulations.

What skills do I need to have?

You will take pride in delivering high quality nutritious and delicious meals that are freshly made and prepared on the day. You will have experience in planning creative and exciting menus that appeal to residents and contribute to the overarching care philosophy within the home. A good understanding of dietary needs for older people and cultural food preparation are important and you’ll need to hold a minimum of NVQ Level 3 in Food Preparation/Catering.

Alongside showcasing your flair for cooking you will also be responsible for the management of a team of catering staff across two kitchens. You will be a strong leader that engages and motivates staff and will have a supportive and coaching approach, understanding that teamwork is vital to delivering a successful and efficient service. You must be friendly with excellent communication skills and will utilise your leadership and management skills to prepare staff rotas, build effective working relationships, and work with each team member to develop them to their full potential.

To deliver an excellent catering service, you will need to have strong kitchen management skills with thorough knowledge of budgeting and ordering to ensure that exceptional food is created within budget and with a value for money approach. A high standard of hygiene and cleanliness is mandatory and you will be accountable for the standards delivered within the kitchen. You will rely on your existing knowledge of food safety and compliance and strive to embed a culture of continuous improvement, accountability and food safety compliance throughout the kitchen.
