Principle Planning Policy Officer. Breckland, Dereham

We are looking to recruit a Principle Planning Policy Officer who is looking to build their reputation and portfolio of planning experience in a successful, rapidly growing consultancy based in East Anglia.

Breckland District covers an area of 1,305 kilometres and in one the largest rural districts in England. Nestling just on the Norfolk/Suffolk border Breckland is centred round the five main market towns of Attleborough, Dereham, Swaffham, Thetford and Watton. There are also 112 parishes in Breckland but the majority of the population is centred round the five market towns

The key element of the role is being the lead professional on delivery of the Local Plan and the planning policy service provided to Breckland Council and other external clients. As part of this, there is the responsibility for delivering an annual programme of planning policy work for the Council and overseeing the successful delivery of a wide range of external policy projects. You will report directly to the Planning Policy Manager but would be responsible for supervision of more junior members of the team.

Key Responsibilities:

* To lead a team of planning professionals delivering the annual work programme of planning policy work for Breckland Council and consultancy commissions

* To provide support and advice to the development management team, on strategically important planning applications, enforcement and appeals;

* Work for the Breckland Council client will include

* Providing timely, comprehensive and accurate reports and recommendations on planning policy issues;

* Attending and presenting to Breckland Council's Committees;

* Providing professional advice on planning matters to clients, the public, Members of the Council, and others as necessary;

* Attending and presenting at various public meetings; including to Town and Parish Councils in the District

* To keep up to date with current legislation and policy changes, including CPD requirements;

* To assist with business development for planning policy commissions and meeting agreed targets for general consultancy work;

* Comply with Health and Safety rules for the safety of yourself and others.

Essential Criteria

Significant and Demonstrable post qualification work in planning policy work;

Proven track record of leading in the delivery of Local Plan documents, including an ability to use initiative to shape the strategic direction of the plan and sufficient knowledge and understanding of the full range of technical matters involved (eg housing, environment, infrastructure etc)

Demonstrate an ability to identify and realise commercial trading opportunities;

Experience of, or the clear potential for, team leadership, including ability to prioritise, manage and delegate tasks;

An ability to make site visits;

A degree qualification in Town and Country Planning or equivalent experience;

Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute;
