WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING IN YOUR ROLE?
The Quality Engineer will be responsible for implementing and developing suitable quality tools and techniques to ensure that products are designed, developed and manufactured in compliance with Internal and External Requirements.
To assure Mass Production Product Quality by:
- Definition, implementation and refinement of a robust Quality Concept during the Product and Process Design and Development phases.
- Ensuring all quality requirements, including lessons learned, are considered; DFMEA, Datum strategy, Tolerances, Feasibility, DFM, PFMEA, Control Plan, Poka-Yoke, Gauging, etc.
- Providing knowledge, documentation and on-site support to manufacturing plants during the Product and Process Realisation, Series Preparation, Ramp-Up and Mass Production phases.
To assure Prototype Product Quality by:
- Supporting and monitoring the Prototype build phases.
- Establishing Supplier controls and monitoring performance (Control Plan, Gauging, etc.).
- Reporting and monitoring finished product quality performance (Dimensional, Functional, Auditing, etc.) including associated improvement plans.
To act as the Key company contact with the customer for all Quality issues:
- Lead the interaction of the Chassis team with the Quality functions of the Customer.
- Determining a mutually acceptable model of control with the customer.
- Co-ordinating Quality activities in support of successful Customer final acceptance (PPAP).
To proactively collaborate with System activities:
- Support innovative initiatives in any area of the business.
- Support and co-ordinate Quality related activities for other business units.
- Lead internal product and process audits at all project phases.
- Provide support for the development of the BUC systems.
WHAT EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS ARE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION?
Mandatory:
- Educated to HNC or Degree level in an Engineering discipline (Consideration will be given to a recognised engineering apprenticeship)
- Significant experience in a Quality role within the automotive industry.
- Product and Process Design, Development and Launch experience.
- Experience in automotive industry standards, procedures and practices.
- Experience and working knowledge in producing and developing robust control documentation such as, PFMEAs, Control Plans, Gauge layouts, Instructions, etc.
- Experience in using Quality tools and techniques such as, SPC, 8D, Poka Yoke, etc.
- Ability to interpret drawings coupled with a thorough understanding of GD&T.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven analytical thinking and problem solving skills with the ability to remain focused under pressure.
- Proficient in all MS Office packages.
Preferable:
- Understanding and experience of cold forming (pressing)
- Understanding and experience of arc welding (assembly)
- Understanding and experience of chassis systems
- Negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in Teamcenter, Catia, PC-DMIS.
- Experience in working to Customer Specific Requirements (Ford/JLR/Volvo/Nissan)
- Second language proficiency (Spanish, German, Turkish or Chinese)

WHAT ARE THE FINER DETAILS OF YOUR ROLE?
This role is based in Newton Aycliffe and will be based on a 38 hour week with flexible working hours available.
