Come and join us

We're looking for two passionate individuals with their own personal experience of homelessness, addiction and mental health issues to come and join us and make a difference to the way we do things. If you believe that people should have a say in their own support and that they should be at the front of making meaningful change then this could be the traineeship for you.

Who we are

Inspiring Change Manchester, a partnership led by Shelter is part of Fulfilling Lives, a programme set up by The National Lottery Community Fund , the largest funder of community activity in the UK. Fulfilling Lives works with people who have first-hand experience of substance misuse, homelessness, offending, and mental ill-health to make services and support better connected, easier to access and tailored to the needs of individuals. It is one of five major programmes set up by The National Lottery Community Fund to test and learn from new approaches to designing services which aim to make people's lives healthier and happier.

This project is led by Shelter in partnership with Self-Help Services, Back-On-Track and Community-Led Initiatives.

Involving statutory, voluntary and private sector organisations alongside a core group of service users, the Inspiring Change Manchester programme is focused on long term service change. We believe that people living in Manchester who have multiple and complex needs can achieve real, lasting growth and fulfilment. To succeed however, we'll need to inspire a wide range of people across the city to change their beliefs and their behaviour. Our vision? To help people improve their lives and sustain these improvements by transforming Manchester's systems and services. You'll help us do just that.

About the role
GROW means Getting Real Opportunities of Work. We'll give you a comprehensive introduction to the traineeship, after which you'll join our Inspiring Change Manchester Engagement team. You will be working to support individuals accessing services, groups and activities around the city. You'll also help us find new ways of working by using what you've learned through your personal experiences to help us shape how we do things into the future.

About you
We're looking for someone with personal experience of multiple and complex needs; including homelessness, mental ill health, substance misuse, criminal justice, and other related issues, and the passion to effect change in Manchester. With a flexible approach and the ability to work as part of a team, you will want to work with people from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences. Basic computer skills, e.g. word processing, the internet and emails systems are helpful, but support can be provided. We're looking for enthusiasm and a desire to develop and learn new skills.
