Intelligence Analyst

Grade: Executive Officer/ NCA Grade 5 / Police Constable

The National Data Unit (NDU) provides the focal point within the NCA for the application and use of the latest technology to exploit all available intelligence and data across multiple areas of business. This join of data, technology and talented staff provide the platform to deliver the NDU mission, which is: To lead in the identification, capture and technical configuration of all relevant data, in order to provide cogent and timely intelligence to support the fight against all aspects of serious, organised and complex crime.

This role requires working with other NCA Intelligence Officers, Data Scientists and specialist contractors in the NDU, to support Intelligence Operations and Data Acquisition activity. Working as a team, this role is responsible for undertaking complex and wide ranging analysis of bulk data, to conduct cross-source data exploitation and make recommendations to support the proactive and reactive development of intelligence.

The ideal candidate will have an aptitude for problem solving - and the ability to apply that in a dynamic, changing intelligence environment. A good understanding of legislation and NCA activity will provide a solid foundation for the role.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Research the NDU's unique (and sensitive) intelligence and other data sources to deliver outputs ranging from bespoke intelligence

reporting, through to assessing new data or intelligence sources.

Evaluate and assess intelligence, data and information gathered from multiple sources

*

Identify gaps, patterns and relationships, trends, threats and opportunities and make inferences, deduce meaning and make recommendations

*

Produce, present and disseminate appropriate and relevant analytical products to inform tactical and strategic decision making.

*

Ensure the secure handling of and dissemination of material in accordance with legislation and best practice. Support the acquisition of new intelligence or information data sources.

Undertake user testing of new technical products and releases.

The NDU also offers the ability to expand conventional intelligence skills and to develop data analytical skills, in support of a wide range of tasks.

The ideal candidate must have experience of assessing information, conducting analysis and presenting results as well as experience of researching and gathering information from a wide range of sources and knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g CPIA, ECHR) and its impact on the role and Agency Involved.
