COVER SECRETARY

FTE Salary: £19,819 to £22,401 (SET Grade 6)

Pro Rata Salary: £11,039 to £12,478

Hours of work:  23.75 hours a week (4.75 hours a day), 39 weeks of the year (term time only)

Required for:  ASAP

Closing date for applications:  15th March 2019 (3pm)

The Role:

When teachers are absent due to illness or attendance at a course or meeting off site, their lessons need to be covered by an appropriately qualified teacher or Cover Supervisor.

Your role will be to ensure that all lessons that day are covered.  This will involve planning in advance for those absences which are prebooked and, starting at 7.30am, taking the calls from staff who are not able to attend due to illness and arranging cover in good time before the start of the school day, updating the management information system accordingly.

You will book supply staff through agencies, agree the fee and ensure that they are appropriately vetted, provide them with the information they need on arrival, ensure staff are aware of which lessons are being covered, and authorise payment to the agencies.

You will also organise room changes, assist the HR Manager in finding cover staff for long term absences or vacant posts, maintain the security badge system, and help the smooth running of the school by being present on corridors during lesson changeover.

This is key role in any school, the smooth running of the day being dependent on the work of the Cover Secretary.

Full training and support will be provided.

The Candidate:

You will be an excellent, highly organised administrator who can work well under pressure and who has good people skills.  You will be highly reliable, an employee with a history of outstanding attendance.  You will be able to work independently, use your initiative, take responsibility, communicate very effectively and you will have good judgement skills.  Given the early start time, it would be helpful if you live within a 5 or 6 mile radius (a relatively short journey) from the school.

No previous school experience is necessary but a genuine interest in working with children in a school would be an advantage.
