Title: Education and Specialist Support Workers
Hours: Part time, up to 35 hours per week
Location: Knapwell, Cambridge
Contract type: Permanent
Salary: £15,756 - £16,249 per annum, (pro rata) dependent on position and experience.
About the role
We have a number of part time Specialist Support Worker posts working 20 - 35 hours per week and a part time Education Support Worker role, working 35 hours per week.
As an Education Support Worker you will support people who have dual or single sensory impairment, learning disability and / or autism, to be as involved as possible in every part of their day to day lives so that they can be full and active members of society. You will work closely with learners to achieve the long term goals identified in their Individual Learning Plans through a range of activities.
As a Specialist Support Worker you will support and enable people to live the life they choose: to make choices, to express themselves and live as independently as possible. Your patient support and encouragement will assist individuals to run their own lives as much as possible – helping with personal care, supporting someone to engage with Sense activities, or enabling individuals to access their local community.
For our Education Support Worker roles, previous experience of working with people who have a sensory impairment, autism or learning disability would be an advantage, as would knowledge of BSL, Makaton or other methods of communication. GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths is an essential requirement for this role.
For our Specialist Support Worker roles, experience is not necessarily required as we are able to support you and provide you with an excellent induction. However, it is really important that you are able to demonstrate the right values and behaviours to enable you to make a difference to people’s lives.
For everyone living with complex disabilities. For everyone who is deafblind. Sense is here to help people communicate and experience the world.
We believe that no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, should be isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential.
Sense Centre Knapwell is located in Knapwell, approximately 10 miles outside of Cambridge. We are not located on a public transport route, so it essential that applicants have alternative means of travel.
Working at Sense can be incredibly rewarding; we offer the opportunity to work in a large, diverse and successful charity where people can develop their skills, knowledge and careers in a supportive and flexible environment. In addition, we have excellent training and development, the opportunity for you to join our Group Personal Pension scheme and a generous annual leave entitlement.
