Trainee Technician

Hours per week: 37.5 hours per week.

Days: Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 5.00pm

Weeks per year: 52 

Pay rate: Depending on experience with a pay increase after the probationary period, plus staff discount scheme.

Job Purpose

To service and repair sewing and overlocking machines within the retail business of Pembertons in Stirling and in Schools throughout Central Scotland.

Main objectives 

  • Provide a first point of contact for customers, whether they are on the telephone, attending classes or retail customers .
  • Answer queries on machine related issues, face to face, by email and on the telephone. 
  • Keep up to date with changes in the sewing industry, attend training and by reading new updates as they are produced.
  • Tidily manage parts stock and assist the owner in maintaining healthy stock levels. 
  • Organise delivery and collections in a timely and efficient manner. 
  • Being responsible for processing cash and card payments.
  • Answering queries from customers.
  • Reporting discrepancies and problems to the owner.
  • Giving advice and guidance on product selection to customers.
  • Dealing with customer refunds.
  • Responsible for dealing with customer complaints.
  • Working within established guidelines, particularly with brands.

Person Specification

Knowledge

  • Understanding of sewing & overlocking machines and how they work. (Training wil be given).
  • Some knowledge of MS Office programs e.g. Email, database entry, word processing..
  • Understanding of CAD/CAM.
  • Knowledge of retail processes.

Candidate

  • Having a friendly and engaging personality. 
  • Comfortable working with members of the public.
  • Should have a confident manner. 
  • Must be helpful and polite.
  • Applicant should be physically fit as they will be on their feet for most of the day and may be required to lift large amounts of stock. 
  • You should have a comprehensive understanding of your area of work. 
  • Knowledge of inventory techniques.
  • Should be of a smart appearance and articulate.

Qualifications

  • 5 GCSE grade C (or equivalent) to include Maths and English. If this not available the candidate must demonstrate experience at an appropriate level.
  • Clean driving licence.
