WalesOnline is seeking to recruit a talented digital senior reporter who is brimming with ideas to join our team.

This is an exciting opportunity to create and curate multimedia content, putting together total content packages that work across all of our platforms, and use channels such as social media to get our stories to as many people as possible.

We are looking for someone to consolidate and develop WalesOnline's position as a key destination for Welsh news, write great stories and produce quality content that engages a growing number of readers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce outstanding content which engages and grows our audience on a daily basis
  • Do so through pictures, video, audio, live blogs and other interactive digital storytelling tools
  • Have a strong understanding of the WalesOnline audience
  • Engage pro-actively on social media and other platforms
  • Take responsibility for video and audio content as well as written content
  • Use analytics and data intelligence to guide your own content production
  • Understand the key ways our audiences engage with our content - social, search, mobile, apps, video
  • Cover major general news stories and breaking news (including live coverage) as required by the management team
  • Create a maintain a community and audience around your stories
  • Take responsibility for themes of content, such as geographic areas, campaigns or other areas of interest, as directed by the content desk
  • Build strong contacts for story-gathering
  • Ensure content is written with strong search engine optimisation in mind
  • Ensure content carries the correct tags, in accordance with agreed conventions
  • Ensure content is produced with the correct metadata at all times
  • Undertake company/editorial projects and any other duties from time to time as reasonably requested by management
  • Possess a thorough, up-to-date knowledge of media law and IPSO Code
  • Maintain the highest personal standards of professionalism and integrity at all times within the framework of current legislation and Trinity Mirror's e

The Ideal Candidate
  • First class digital, social media and communication skills
  • Motivated by the challenge of producing stories and getting the highest possible audience for them
  • Able get into the heart of our communities, bringing in exclusive stories and investigations which matter to our readers.
  • Possess an NCTJ-accredited Journalism qualification
  • 1-2 years experience working on a newspaper
  • Understand digital publishing, including SEO and analytics
  • Video and audio skills, including editing
  • Up-to-date legal and IPSO code knowledge
  • Full driving licence
