This is an exciting position leading the Cambridgeshire Live digital team. The website launched last year, building on the previous success of Cambridge News and now covers the whole county. We are passionate about Cambridgeshire as a great place to live and work. The role requires a journalist who can combine editorial leadership and management skills with digital publishing knowledge and a skill for storytelling across different platforms.
The Head of Digital will work closely with the Editor-in-chief Cambridge to ensure the website is the must-read destination for audiences across the county.
From our Cambridge newsroom we publish Cambridgeshire Live and the daily newspaper Cambridge News.
We are part of the South East and Cambridge (SEACAM) region in Reach Plc where we set high standards for ourselves and our journalism. In SEACAM our vision is to think like a reader, deliver the detail, and be lovely to deal with.
We are Reach because it's what we do.
Every day our newsbrands - national and regional, in print and online - reach millions of people up and down the country. We are the UK's largest news publisher, with influential national newsbrands such as the Daily Mirror, Daily Express, Sunday People, Daily Record, and more than 100 distinguished regional titles.
Our brands have a long heritage of being trusted sources of news and information, with our editorial conviction and high standards of journalism providing audiences with timely information and opinion across multiple platforms.
Last year we sold 540 million newspapers, and our network of over 70 websites provide 24/7 coverage of news, sport and showbiz stories, viewed by 110m unique browsers every month.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure audience targets are met across all platforms by leading content development against audience analysis
- Lead digital publishing within newsroom
- Ensure digital data informs content decisions, sharing the right data at the right time
- Ensure that opportunities for digital content creation and development are maximised at all times
- Ensure that resources are clearly focused and are managed as effectively as possible to deliver the newsroom's digital targets
- Continually suggest ideas for digital content that will drive audience growth and engagement
- Be an advocate for our digital publishing activities, internally and externally
- Work closely with commercial colleagues to create compelling editorial content that drives revenues
The Ideal Candidate
You will be a qualified journalist with experience of leading teams and developing new projects. A self-starter, you will be passionate about reaching new audiences and cementing Cambridgeshire Live as the county's premier news, information, and entertainment site.
You will have a deep understanding of social media and analytics, and the role they play in the day-to-day editorial decisions of a senior newsroom leader.
You will work closely across editorial and commercial to ensure the daily content offering across all platforms is lively, informative and relevant, while also supporting commercial colleagues as required in ensuring our brand and message is communicated effectively to clients.
