The Environmental & Sustainability Department (ESD) is a team of specialists primarily responsible for the environmental and social appraisal and monitoring of Bank's portfolio of projects in various sectors and the custodians of the ESP and Bank E&S mandate as defined in articles establishing the Bank.
Main interaction in the organisation is with the Banking teams during project development and implementation, where an active participation is expected in identifying and developing environmental and social opportunities associated with projects to increase the Bank's environmental and social transition impact. The role requires close co-operation and support to Banking and Clients, contributions to Technical Cooperation operations, as well as interaction with other units and departments in projects' performance monitoring, evaluation. External stakeholders' cooperation on implementing Bank's E&S mandate includes cooperation with clients, civil society organisations, regulatory agencies and other IFIs, among others.
The Health and Safety Analyst is responsible for providing Health and Safety support throughout the lifecycle of investment projects. This includes the identification of project related health and safety hazards, assessing risks and identifying necessary mitigation measures to meet the Banks Environmental and Social Policy requirements. This position provides research support and technical input to the due diligence and monitoring of projects, which may include the review of project documentation, site visits, drafting of guidelines and contribution to Technical Co-operation assignments.
In addition, the Health and Safety Analyst will support the tracking of Health and Safety performance across the Banks portfolio of investments, assist with the implementation of the ESD Health and Safety action plan and developing / implementing Technical Cooperation assignments.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Analyse and support the review the health and safety components of EBRD projects, including undertaking site visits and review of monitoring information, as appropriate.
- Support the monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) of health and safety impacts of EBRD's projects and be responsible for the update and enhancement of ESD's MRV systems. This will include providing assistance with Key Performance Indicator data collection, compiling health and safety data for inclusion in EBRD's Annual Sustainability Report and administration of the Banks project related incident reporting system management reporting and annual reporting.
- Support the implementation of the Annual ESD H&S Action Plan;
- Undertake research on potential health and safety issues that could be integrated in EBRD's projects and draft guidance related to potential components for specific banking sectors such as sustainable infrastructure, power and energy, property and tourism, agribusiness etc.
- Provide background research to ESD specialists on various health and safety topics relating project and policy issues; Provide support for the management of TCs; this includes drafting of TORs, developing budgets and supporting the TC projects throughout the process;
- Support the ESD in planning and organisation of meetings and events related to health and safety and MRV;
- Liaise with the Results Management team to ensure that project level health and safety indicators are collected and reported;
- Participate in health and safety meetings and management review as directed;
- Provide ad-hoc support for other ESD reporting obligations.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- A degree in Occupational or Public Health and Safety, Safety Risk Management or related field (NEBOSH Diploma also considered);
- Masters Degree in a relevant discipline is desirable;
- Knowledge of health and safety issues and relevant work experience in more than one of the following areas: (a) construction health and safety (small and large scale); (b) transportation sector (rail); (c) power and energy (electrical distribution); (d) water and wastewater; (e) road safety.
- Proven analytical and quantitative skills and work experience related to monitoring, reporting, verifying and evaluating of health and safety performance data;
- Excellent working knowledge of data analysis tools such as Microsoft Excel;
- Familiarity with root causes analysis tools and techniques;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Knowledge of an additional language, which is either one of EBRD official languages or spoken in EBRD countries of operation, is an advantage;
- Ability to communicate appropriate, concise and accurate information in verbal and written formats, appropriate to the audience at the time;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in teams as well as independently;
- Excellent presentation skills and use of Presentation software such as Microsoft PowerPoint;
- A pragmatic approach to health and safety with a problem solving attitude - i.e. low cost / no cost control measures;
- Confident in communication and influencing at all levels;
- Passionate about preventing injury and ill-health and ability to make the topic personal;
- Effective time management and ability to multi-task without losing attention to detail;
- Ability to operate in a multicultural environment and build effective working relationships with colleagues and clients.
