Work Hours: 36 Hours per Week

Hackney Council is looking for creative and highly organised people to join our new events team. A thriving calendar of events is an increasingly valued part of life in the borough, with a huge variety of activities running in our public spaces and parks. As Events Officer, you will play a key role in balancing the benefits of a diverse events programme with mitigating their impact. This is an important part of our work to make Hackney a place for everyone to enjoy.

Day to day you will lead on event planning and delivery for our Council-run events like our fireworks display and the Hackney Carnival, as well as providing support on partner events such as the Hackney Half Marathon and the Shoreditch 10k. You will also be responsible for monitoring a range of externally delivered community events as well as those run by corporate and commercial operators. You will need to make sure event applications are managed professionally and methodically from start to finish, ensuring the relevant licences and permissions are in place. You will also play an important part in our Safety Advisory Group, facilitating the appropriate governance for event arrangements.

You will need a good understanding of the legal framework within which we operate, as well as a knowledge of industry standards and best practice. The team works within a safety first culture and you will be required to ensure event organisers work to the same safety standards.

We need people able to work in partnership with our communities and professional organisers as well as with regulatory agencies and key stakeholders. You should have a creative flair and be able to seek external funding to support our programme. You will need an excellent approach to customer service as well as superb attention to detail and a flexible attitude. This work will involve being on site in all weathers and working out of hours.

To thrive in this role, you should be passionate about the contribution well managed events can make to our communities. You will realise the importance of safety and accessibility, as well as the need to effectively engage community groups in our work. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on some high-profile events and build relationships across the public and commercial sector. You will have the exciting opportunity of taking events from planning to implementation, as well as being site manager with bronze control responsibility.

Hackney is one of the UK's highest performing local authorities, serving one of London's best places to live and work. We have achieved a huge amount: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best. We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself. Bringing jobs and investment into the borough, securing the legacy from 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud.

We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.

If you want to work in a place where you can represent our values so we achieve the best for our residents, please visit our website via the button below to apply.

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy and maternity, age and marital status. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class. We also welcome those interested in flexible working. We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, as this group is currently under represented in our workforce.
