Missing People's vision is that every missing person is found safe. We are a non-judgemental, highly skilled team of staff and volunteers working around the clock for everyone who needs us. We provide free 24 hour confidential support, help, advice by phone, email, text and online, including the opportunity to reconnect. We also coordinate a UK wide network of people, businesses and media to join the search for the estimated 200,000 people who go missing each year. Missing People is an independent charity that relies on donations.

People Department:

The People Department at Missing People plays a crucial role in supporting the performance of the charity. With a remit of HR, Volunteering, Learning and Development, Quality Assurance and Facilities, this department ensures our team has the skills, knowledge, tools and resources to excel.

Missing People was ranked as 18th in the Sunday Times Best 100 Not-for-Profit Organisations to work for, and received the prestigious Queen's Diamond Jubilee Award for Volunteering.

Position: Director of People and Organisational Development
Location: South West London (Central Office is based in Mortlake, 12 mins from Clapham Junction and 23 mins from Waterloo)
Some regular home working possible
Job type: Part Time, Permanent
Hours: 21 to 28 hours per week within office hours; flexible; Occasional out of office hours' working may be required
Salary: circa. GBP50k to 55k Full Time Equivalent

About the role:

The Director of People and Organisational Development is responsible for leading our People Department to further develop Missing People's reputation as a great place to work and volunteer, and to ensure we have the people with the right skills, knowledge, experience and resources to deliver our strategic plans.
You will be responsible for ensuring that the organisation plans effectively for the future by leading the thinking in how the charity can continue to grow its impact, while remaining sustainable, and relevant to the changing needs of the people we support.
Responsibilities:

- Work with the CEO and Director Group on the charity's strategic development
- Motivate and inspire the People team to deliver the best results possible for Missing People against agreed targets
- Lead the development of a new organisational development strategy to enable Missing People to grow its impact, remain relevant and be sustainable
- Lead the development and review of Missing People's developing employer brand and total reward to ensure we recruit and retain the best people, working with the HR, Learning and Development Manager and the Volunteering Manager
- Lead our developing strategy to ensure the charity's staff and volunteers reflect the diversity of the communities we support, and that inclusion is at the heart of the charity's strategy, policies and practice
- Lead approach to employee engagement and internal communications
- Be a trusted partner with Directors and Line Managers on strategic organisational development and people issues
- Oversee the review of existing HR, Volunteering and Learning & Development policies and the development of new policies as needed, in line with best practice
- Oversee the delivery and review of our Volunteering Strategy, HR Plan and Learning and Development Plan to support the organisation's strategic aims
- Oversee ongoing work to ensure our people have the facilities and resources they need to deliver their work effectively
- Provide senior level support and negotiation skills on relationships with external suppliers and providers in order to ensure the best possible results for Missing People
- Set, monitor and review expenditure budgets working with the Director of Finance and other members of the Director Group
- Work in collaboration with the Director Group in relation to funding applications and support fundraising for e.g. producing multiyear activity plans and budgets

About you:

- Experience / demonstrable capability in leadership of HR and / or Volunteering
- Knowledge of diversity and inclusion best practice and how to deliver it
- Significant experience of people management
- Knowledge of employment law
- Basic criminal record check (DBS required)
- Experience / demonstrable capability in leadership of organisational development
- Track record of leading change / innovation programmes that delivered positive outcomes
- Strategic planning experience including effective employee engagement
- Knowledge of digital innovation and how it can transform the way charities work
- Dedicated to upholding the values of the charity, and ensuring they are embodied in strategy, policy and practice
- Budget management and financial planning skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent written communication skills (e.g. strategies, reports) and oral communication skills (including presentations, events, chairing meetings)
- Good IT skills including the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel to a high standard

Desirable:

- CIPD or other relevant HR qualification
- Experience in the design and management of learning and development programmes
