FPGA / VHDL Design Engineer
A leading provider of vacuum and image detection systems serving the scientific and life science world, due to growth are looking to recruit an experienced FPGA / VHDL Design Engineer to join their existing research and development team and work on the development of customer specific bespoke solutions.
Reporting to the Senior Research & Development Engineer and working as part of a small team you will be responsible for gathering requirements and code specifications in line with the customer; the design and development of VHDL / Embedded C code for data/control interfacing; developing embedded firmware; implementing required testbench and functionality verification including FPGA simulation; assisting in the development of drivers for software interfaces and following software development best practices including the use of version control and full documentation of code and hardware interface definitions.
Individuals will ideally be qualified to degree standard in a related subject such as Electronics, Computing or Physics but more importantly be able to demonstrable at least 12 months commercial experience of using VHDL for FPGA design/simulation working with Quartus, Altera, Actel, Xilinx or other tools along with experience of programming in C / Python for embedded systems.
Experience of interfacing FPGA's with high speed digital interfaces such as Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2/3; using JTAG or similar debugging tools or developing VHDL code for use in high reliability environments would be a distinct advantage, though not essential.
This position is offering a salary in the region of GBP25,000 - GBP30,000, pension scheme, non-contractual monthly, quarterly and annual bonuses based on company performance and 20 days holiday rising 1 day per year with service up to 25.
