Job Description: Pupil Support Manager

Pupil Support Manager Hours: Term Time Only plus 10 days 8am — 4pm (36 Hrs)

£18,237 - £20,000 (Pro Rata) (Grade 2C)

Responsible to: Behaviour Lead

Job Purpose: 

• To work as part of the On Call Team and to support the operation of Internal Exclusion

• To work with the Behaviour Lead to ensure Internal Exclusion is supervised at all times in a consistent manner which supports students.

• To assist in the support of children who display challenging behaviour and to work both as part of a team and independently to support the aims of the school.

Key Tasks:

Support for Pupils

1. Respond swiftly to all issues relating to pupil behaviour both inside and outside of the classroom using de-escalation techniques.

2. To work within the Internal Exclusion provision ensuring a consistent and pro-active approach at all times.

3. To establish rapport and respectful, trusting relationships with pupils, promoting positive values and attitudes, setting high expectations and acting as a role model to both pupils and staff.

4. Anticipate and manage behaviour constructively, promoting self-confidence and independence whilst encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their own behavior.

5. Support pupils in being able to resolve their issues both with other pupils and staff through restorative justice practice.

6. To promote inclusion and acceptance of all pupils across the school by encouraging them to interact with each other and to engage in activities led by staff.

7. Secure individual supportive relationships with pupils; and develop and implement Support Plans. 8. To reintegrate pupils following a Fixed Term Exclusion.

9. Meet pupils for one to one sessions to support positive behavior.

10. Promote self-esteem and independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self-reliance.

11. Provide specific feedback in discussion with pupils on their progress and achievement.

12. Support pupils in developing skills to ensure their own safety whilst managing their own personal and emotional needs.

13. To administer first aid as required and use knowledge and experience to support decisions regarding pupil attendance. 14. Contribute to individual behavior plans.

Support for Teachers

1. To create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment for all pupils.

2. Provide support in the management of pupil behaviour and act as an intermediary between staff and pupils, ensuring issues are resolved in a fair and professional manner using restorative justice practice.

3. Support the Behavior Lead in implementing and improving the On Call system, responding to calls as required.

4. Ensure staff are aware of how pupil incidents have been managed and followed up on a daily basis through electronic and face to face communication.

5. Accurately record any instances of both positive and negative pupil behavior with a focus on SIMs.

6. Record on SIMs all contact with parents/carers and other professionals in relation to individual pupils.

7. To assist the Behaviour Lead with preparation of teaching and learning materials and resources.

8. Ensure all work undertaken in IE is returned to the appropriate teacher for marking on a daily basis.

9. To undertake structured and agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, being aware of learning style and adjusting activities according to pupil' responses/needs.

10. To work with pupils on programmes linked to National Curriculum using differentiated learning strategies.

11. To support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop pupils competence and independence in its use.

12. To enable pupils to access specialist equipment to support their learning as required.

13. To provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on pupils' progress and achievements.

14. To report any problems or concerns relating to supporting pupils in line with School Policy.

15. To be responsible for keeping and updating records as agreed with the teacher, through the monitoring and evaluation of pupils' responses to learning activities through observation of achievement against pre-determined learning objectives.

16. To assist with the collation of pupils reports as request by the Behaviour Lead

17. To invigilate exams as required.

18. To accurately record pupils achievements and progress.

19. To assist with the display of pupils work.

20. To promote good behaviour, dealing with incidents in line with the School Behaviour Policy and encouraging pupil to take responsibility for their own behaviour. 

General:  

• To attend and participate in meetings as required

• To work openly within the framework of best practice identified in the school safeguarding policy.

• To report any concerns regarding pupil safety or staff working practices to the designated CP officer(s).

• To keep up to date with local and national CP training and training requirements.

• To undertake other tasks commensurate with the role.

• To be responsible for own continuing self-development, undertaking training as appropriate
