Cauldon, Staffordshire

Apply your proven skills in planned and reactive mechanical maintenance at Lafarge Cement, a leading player in construction solutions.

Lafarge Cement joined Aggregate Industries in July 2015 following the global merger of LafargeHolcim.  We are a major manufacturer and supplier of cement, GGBS and Fly Ash to the UK construction industry, with two cement plants in Cauldon, Staffordshire and Cookstown, Northern Ireland, which manufacture over 1.4Mt annually and employ over 250 people.

As a Mechanical Craftsperson reporting to our Execution Engineer and a member of our mechanical execution team, you’ll be responsible for ensuring that the mechanical maintenance schedule is adhered to in order to meet the demands of the plant, whilst responding to any additional tasks that may arise.  Operating to the highest Health, Safety & Environmental standards and liaising with other teams to ensure all work is carried out effectively and efficiently, in addition to planned maintenance, you’ll also respond to mechanical repairs if required.  Other key accountabilities include:

  • Ensuring the maintenance schedule is adhered to and targets met
  • Contributing to additional mechanical maintenance to have a positive impact on plant reliability.

Ideally a qualification in Mechanical Engineering but certainly a time-served/apprentice-trained mechanical engineering craftsperson, you must have a proven track record in multi-skilled engineering maintenance and be competent in fabrication skills, including MMA/MIG welding,  gas-cutting and burning.  In addition to experience of slinging and rigging and abrasive wheels, you’re also familiar with equipment isolation procedures and, preferably, have a good working knowledge of the cement manufacturing process.  Experience in the use of mobile plant such as Fork Lift Truck/Telehandler/MEWP would be advantageous.  With a solid understanding of and proactive approach to Health, Safety & Environment, you’re strong on organisation and prioritising which enables you to manage your approach to both breakdowns and planned maintenance.  Flexible and with a really positive work ethic, you’re also:

  • willing to self-develop and undertake departmental mandatory legislative training
  • able to work well as one of a team to achieve individual and works targets.

We believe in Equal Opportunities for all employees.

All applicants will be required to provide evidence that they have the right to live and work in the UK, as per the UK Illegal Working Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006.
