The Client

Colchester Borough Council is the lead authority for the North Essex Parking Partnership (NEPP), bringing together the parking operations for Braintree, Colchester, Epping, Harlow, Tendring and Uttlesford.

The Role

The main aim of the North Essex Parking Partnership, working for Colchester Borough Council is to keep roads congestion free and keep traffic moving. In particular enforcement action is focussed on dangerous, careless and negligent parking to make all of the North Essex Parking Partnership areas a safer and more attractive environment for businesses and visiting customers as well as local residents.

The role is challenging and will involve enforcement patrols throughout all of the areas of the parking partnership and walking for approximately 10 miles per day in all weathers issuing penalty charge notices to motorists parked in contravention of parking regulations.

About You

Tact and diplomacy are essential skills for a Civil Enforcement Officer as you will encounter members of the public from all walks of life and will be expected to treat everyone politely and fairly under sometimes very difficult circumstances. You should be as comfortable working alone as working as part of a team and be able to use your own initiative.

You need to be literate, numerate and have some computer skills and it would be useful for you to have a good working knowledge of the North Essex Parking Partnership areas. Knowledge of parking enforcement and the relevant legislation is not as essential as someone with the right attitude.

Additional Information

You will be required to work a shift pattern including evenings, weekends and Public Holidays.  This equates to an average of 37 hours per week.  A uniform will be provided and full training given. You must have held a full manual driving licence for 2 years and will be required to pass the City & Guilds Level 2 examination for Parking Enforcement Officers during a six month probation period.

Applications from individuals wishing to work part-time are also encouraged.

For an informal discussion about this position please contact Lisa Hinman at Colchester Borough Council or Michael Adamson.

The recruitment process will include an assessment day which will take place in Colchester on 8th March 2019. Candidates must be available to attend the assessment day on this date.  Successful candidates at this stage will be invited to an interview located in Colchester or Braintree on a date to be agreed. Finally, successful candidates will be required to undertake a short driving assessment.
