Internal Communications and Events Manager

Birmingham, West Midlands

cGBP38,500 Plus 26 Days' Holiday, Option To Buy Up To Five Days' Extra Annual Leave, Flexible Working, Civil Service Pension, Childcare Voucher Scheme (subject to statutory tax rules), Additional Benefits Package

Set up under the Gambling Act 2005, the Gambling Commission is committed to safeguarding the public against any detrimental impact brought about by gambling. We do this by keeping crime out, protecting children and vulnerable people and ensuring the commercial gambling industry is run fairly and openly and we work with the legal system, the public health system, community groups and the industry itself to understand how we can protect the interests of as many people as possible, as effectively as possible.

We're now looking for an Internal Communications and Events Manager to oversee our internal communications, which are vital in keeping our 300+ employees connected and engaged.

Joining our Communications team means being at the heart of everything we do. The team works with every department to communicate the Gambling Commission's work and make sure we are not only being heard, but that we are engaging in real dialogue with our audiences. That means we are always coming up with new ways to speak to them, whether that's politicians, the industry, consumers or colleagues within the Commission. The variety of audiences we speak to mean the work is diverse, interesting and challenging. It's a growing team that's helping set the agenda and shape public debate on high-profile issues relating to gambling.

As the Internal Communications and Events Manager, you will develop and implement our internal communication strategy.

In this important role, you'll oversee our internal communications channels and provide guidance to colleagues, particularly those who lead internal change projects.

You'll take responsibility for our intranet and the delivery of internal campaigns, including managing a programme of staff events and surveys.

Additionally, you'll create and deliver communication plans to support cross-Commission exercises, such as employee surveys, HR, IT and facilities updates.

To be considered, you'll need experience of the following:

  • Working in internal communications
  • Organising events of varying size
  • Creating concise and engaging communications materials, from written content and videos to other forms of storytelling
  • Communicating complex issues to different audiences
  • Developing stakeholder engagement programmes and communications strategies
  • Giving communications advice to internal stakeholders
  • Web editing and development
  • Managing change

Highly-organised and fresh-thinking, as the Internal Communications and Events Manager, you'll have exceptional communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships at all levels.

Experience of working in a matrix organisation would be beneficial, as would experience of both reactive and proactive media relations management. Knowledge of the public sector would also be an advantage.

The closing date for applications is the 30th January 2019.
