Principal Engineer - Electrical (Numerical Modelling OR Configuration Management)

A Principal Electrical Engineer with Numerical Modelling OR Configuration Management experience is required to work on a twelve-month contract (with the possibility of extension) for our defence client based in Cumbria.

This is a 12-month contract with a leading UK defence company.

Overview of the Principal Engineer - Electrical (Numerical Modelling OR Configuration Management) contract role

Configuration Management - Provide support to:

* Assist with ensuring the quality and fitness for purpose of the Technical solution and engineering aspects of the AVC.

* Generate, implement and maintain (including ensure compliance) an AVC Configuration Management Plan.

* Define and implement a robust configuration control process in accordance with the Configuration Management Plan.

* Responsible for ensuring that the AVC baseline is clearly understood and can be articulated at any point in time (across the three sites).

* Responsible for ensuring a controlled change process is in place & fully understood across the AVC One Team (three sites).

* Responsible for ensuring that the AVC configuration management demands can be fully supported by the SIF organisation and equipment. To ensure all build artefacts are base lined & controlled.

Numerical Modelling:

* Play a key role in the development of the AVC Numerical Modelling environment in support of the Numerical Modelling Strategy, i.e. help develop a range of numerical models to support the demands of stakeholders in a MATLAB environment. Support the analysis of output data from the Numerical Model on behalf of equipment & system owners

* Support to Control system design for Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3 systems, considering integration with the wider platform embracing Systems Engineering practices

Gathering requirements from customers relating to the boat control and/ or hydrodynamic systems

* Supporting system design for control and instrumentation systems

Interfacing with customers, suppliers and other related engineering teams

Test and Integration:

* Assist with ensuring the quality and fitness for purpose of the Technical solution and engineering aspects of the AVC.

* Ensure that the system testing strategy for the AVC technical solution is adequate to ensure that the system design has been correctly implemented and enables all deliverables to the final AVC solution to meet its requirements.

* Ensure that the Acceptance Test specifications and Acceptance procedures for hardware and software components for the AVC one Team are adequate to prove that requirements have been met.

* Review the test documentation e.g. test procedures for hardware and software components to assure the AVC Technical Integration team that adequate test coverage has been met.

* Support requirements traceability in order to demonstrate compliance against the Test Requirements.

Key skills required for the Principal Engineer - Electrical (Numerical Modelling OR Configuration Management)

* BEng (Hons) / MEng or equivalent in relevant field

* Relevant sector experience in comparable industry e.g. Shipbuilding, Oil & Gas and Nuclear

* We are looking for people with either Configuration Management or Numerical Modelling experience. We do not expect the candidate to be able to do both.

* CEng qualified or working towards it would be an advantage

The role is based in Barrow in Furness, Cumbria - commutable from Carnforth, Milnthorpe, Lancaster, Morecambe, Penrith, Workington, Whitehaven and The Lake District.
