Senior Reporter - The Ayrshire Post


The Ayrshire Post is looking for an enthusiastic reporter with an interest in reporting on crime, court and general news to join our newsroom based here in Ayr. This is an great opportunity to work in a newsroom full of talented, self-driven journalists. You will be able to deliver compelling content that engages with our audience in newspaper and across a wide range of online platforms.


We are looking for someone who can get into the heart of our communities bringing in exclusive stories and investigations which matter to our readers. It is an ideal position for someone with at least one or two years experience with one to two years experience in newspaper reporting. A knowledge of the circulation area would be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality, thoroughly-researched, accurate and well-written news content which engages and drives a digital and print audience.
  • Build strong contacts for story-gathering within local communities.
  • Be adept at social media to build audiences and communities and ensure that content is shared on social platforms.
  • Possess a thorough, up-to-date knowledge of media law and industry guidelines.

The Ideal Candidate

To qualify for an interview, candidates must demonstrate energy, drive and a passion for journalism which are essential for the role. The successful candidate may have a journalism qualification, ideally to NCTJ standard. Candidates with shorthand will be at an advantage in order to be successful in this role.

A full driving licence is preferred.
