Quality QA/QC Manager
We're looking for a Quality (QA/QC) Manager with a strong heavy civils background to join the main contractor on the first major mining project in the UK since 1982. Preparatory works are currently underway in North Yorkshire which is where this role will be based. The QA/QC Manager will have overall accountability to implement processes and procedures, they are responsible for conducting analyses to sustain and improve the Quality Management System. The incumbent takes responsibility for aspects of occupational health and safety, and environmental matters, over which the role has control and accountability, including adherence to all company policies.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, organise, implement and follow-up on the quality management system for the project (QMS): Quality Manual, Procedures, Quality Management Plans (in conjunction with the Managers from each department)
- Prepare and present the weekly Shaft Instrumentation and Quality Report
- Manage the revisions to the Quality Management Plans as required throughout the project
- Manage and conduct reviews of the quality related elements of the Construction and Engineering Plans to ensure it remains relevant, effective, and achieves mandated quality objectives and targets
- Coordinate the deliverables for the rest of the Quality Management Plans, with the departmental staff responsible for them
- Ensure awareness and compliance of client requirements within the organisation
- Oversee corrective or preventative measures initiated by other parties
- Focus on continuous improvement within the organisation
- Act as the main day to day Quality Management liaison between the client and project partners
- Lead the quality function to deliver on the Project's overall goals and deliverables.
- Line manage the QA/QC team including individual's performance, absence, development and providing clear direction, objectives and departmental targets for the team to aspire to achieve ensuring any issues are resolved in conjunction with Human Resources
Quality Assurance Functions
- Manage training, information and awareness initiatives associated with the application of the project quality plan
- Implement and monitor the Project Quality audit plan to ensure compliance with the Quality management system, relying on facts and their analysis to issue recommendations
- Review and Approval of Subcontractors and major suppliers' Quality Plans, Inspections and Tests Plans, checklists and standard forms
- Review performance during the internal and external audits including the audits on subcontractors/ suppliers as per audit plan
- Manage and initiate Corrective and Preventive Actions
- Coordinate with Technical department to develop specific Work Instructions throughout the project
- Act as the main day to day Quality Assurance liaison between the Client and project partners
- Organise and manage the internal Quality Coordination Meetings
Quality Control Functions:
- Prepare, Implement and monitor the Inspection and Tests Plans (ITPs) for the project and supporting checklists if required, in conjunction with the Team Leads as appropriate
- Develop, implement, monitor and audit a schedule for the surveillance on subcontractors and major suppliers to ensure compliance with the Quality requirements of the project and the customer/client
- Facilitate the review of relevant construction standards, engineering specifications and project documents including the ones mentioned on the ITPs by the Construction Teams and the Quality Technician(s)
- Manage Non Conformities Reports (NCRs) related to materials and works from all parties as well as the NCRs register (Quality Assurance and Control)
- Act as the main day to day Quality Control liaison between the client and project partners
- Organise and manage the internal Quality Coordination Meetings if necessary
Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge
- Minimum 7-10 years' experience working in heavy civils/construction or mining working in QA/QC is essential
- Previous experience of managing a QA/QC function
- Understanding of rules and regulations on a mine site
- B.Sc. in civil or mechanical engineering, design or related field required
- Knowledge using computer technology (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
- Flexible and well organised, detail oriented and multi-tasked
- Strong communication skills, written and oral
- Previous significant experience of working in a Project based and contracting organisation, liaising with external stakeholders/clients is essential
