We are part of Aviva Quantum and are based in Wellington Row, York. We are supported by the ASEC team in Poland who provide actuarial and analytical support.
We are looking for someone to help drive the development of our investigations and research in this area. You might be a qualified actuary or have equivalent, relevant experience. You will be part of a dedicated team working alongside our Longevity Actuaries.
You will have the personal drive and enthusiasm to develop in this role to become acknowledged as an Aviva expert in this field by both your peers and our senior stakeholders.
The role could be filled by individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds " actuarial / financial, medical research, epidemiological etc. A good understanding of how the research would be implemented in practice and what is most material for our products and risk profile is important.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- You will help develop a programme of analysis and research to help us better understand the drivers of current mortality/morbidity claims experience and map future trends.
- You will explore the impact of product design, underwriting and claims policies on our claims experience along with wider demographic, lifestyle, medical and healthcare developments.
- Within our team you will work with our longevity experts to extend their modelling and research to the age groups served by our Protection teams.
- Within Aviva UK Life you will work closely with our Protection Underwriting, Claims, and Proposition Development teams as well as Healthcare and our Consulting Medical Officers. Collaboration with the Life Data Science team and the Quantum Health Faculty will be essential in developing the analysis programme.
- You will also build external connections " medical / academic / epidemiological to support your research.
- You will identify key information sources and build the capability to gather, interpret and make recommendations based on the content acquired.
- You will provide the mortality / morbidity expertise to support new business pricing and back-book valuation.
- You will contribute to the development of Avivas external presence and influence on mortality / morbidity risk matters.
- You will support key Governance Committees in respect of longevity / mortality risk.
Skills / Experience Required:
- You will have an excellent knowledge of the drivers of mortality / morbidity risk and of the statistical methods for analysing, modelling and projecting them.
- Suitable evidence of this would include:
- Undergraduate or Postgraduate qualifications in relevant disciplines such as demography;
- Published research in relevant fields such as mortality / survival modelling and associated statistical modelling techniques;
- A track record of self-guided mortality research activity, either in industry or in academia through PhD, teaching etc;
- You will have excellent research skills allied with natural curiosity, determination and resourcefulness as well as awareness of external data sources that would complement our internal resources.
- This role will require a lot of contact and collaboration with others " both inside and outside Aviva. You will therefore have strong interpersonal skills and be able to build the networks and connections required to develop your analysis.
- You will have strong communication skills and be comfortable presenting complex information to a variety of audiences including senior management and technical committees.
- You will be able to work independently on long projects with flexible scope " managing workload and prioritising as required.
