We are currently looking to recruit a Platform Chief Engineer Location - Derby Role: Hold overall responsibility for Platform building blocks from a design, performance, product safety, compliance, cost (quality and cost) and overall competitiveness. Own, maintain, develop and protect the Building Block Library for the Platform on behalf of Global Product Management. Manage the relationship with PF Product Family Chief Engineers and Chief Engineers in Internal Divisions. Manage the Convergence and Innovation Leads within the Platform Team. Key Responsibilities and Challenges: Development roadmap * Based upon the market opportunity and competitor analysis provided by the Platform Strategy Manager, put in place a platform development roadmap for improvement. * Manage the development roadmap of the platform and provide governance on Building Block on and off-cycle developments. Approve the content and deliverables of each building Block work package. * Propose, collect, assess and implement innovations through building block development programs. Building block and configuration management * Own, maintain, develop and protect the Building Block Library for the Platform on behalf of Global Product Management. * Manage the integration of the sub-system building blocks into the Platform and library. * Manage the Building Blocks and their interfaces and hold responsibility for the design integrity for the Platform. * Ensure that market requirements are translated into a set of clear development targets and technical standards and ensure these are fulfilled through the development programs. * Validate technical solutions of product variants (based on customer requirements) in line with the product concept requirements of the Platform. Technical lead for Platform Building Blocks * Technical lead for a Platform and technical authority on all Building Blocks within the Platform Library. * Approve and control the technical changes to the Platform building blocks (variants within the Platform). * Review ROP for technical risks and assure the technical closure plans and activities for Building Block developments. * Deploy and manage engineering designs, performance, compliance and overall product cost compliance processes People Management * Lead Platform Convergence and Innovation Managers. * Contribute to the Functional Engineering people management (PMP reports, promotions, etc.) * Provide governance in Building Block development gate reviews and bid Product Reviews. Qualifications - Master's in engineering or equivalent experience; MBA is a plus. - Strong experience in Product Management and development from bid to product introduction (through all project delivery phases) - Excellent experience in development program management - Strong knowledge of railway operation - Mechanical, electrical and functional engineering experience - Significant experience and hands on delivery of the design, analysis, development, testing and delivery of engineering solutions that solve complex requirements. - Must have knowledge and be able to demonstrate an ability to plan and deliver engineering projects. Provide cost and schedule estimates on complicated engineering programs. - Demonstrate knowledge of the project engineering budget process and be able to generate, monitor and ensure projects comply with agreed costs. - Proven team leadership experience - Strong Project Management, and influencing skills are essential, together with the ability to communicate effectively with senior managers across the spectrum of stakeholders.
