Our well-established client, based in High Wycombe, is looking for a Senior Finance Assistant to oversee a variety of accounts duties such as account receivable/payable month end reports and other general accounts tasks and deputise for the Finance Manager in their absence.

The ideal candidate will have experience working within a finance department and should possess a clear understanding of accounting principles and terminology.

The successful candidate will either have finished their AAT or have at least be Level 3 qualified, with a view to potentially studying their ACCA in the future (study support provided for AAT and ACCA).

Key duties

Accounts Receivable

  • Maintaining and reconciling the cash book on a daily basis
  • Daily bank reconciliation
  • Managing customer accounts
  • Debt collection
  • Set up new customer accounts
  • Release customer accounts with credit blocks
  • SAP data entry

Accounts Payable

  • Match invoices & P O's for office and depot and scan to Basware
  • Match handling and logistics reimbursement invoices and import fee invoices with back up and book on SAP
  • Input transport invoices on SAP
  • Liaise with outsourced AP team (Genpact)
  • Review and approve invoices on Basware according to authority level
  • Generate and send supplier payment run

Month end

  • Assist Finance Manager with month end accruals
  • Prepare Waitrose period statement ready for review by Finance Manager
  • Run various month end reports
  • Run depot accruals
  • Raising manual and intercompany invoices for suppliers
  • Reconcile aged debtors and creditors to control accounts
  • Reconcile and book petty cash onto SAP

General duties

  • Prepare staff expenses for review by Finance Manager
  • Prepare VAT returns for review by Finance Manager
  • Minute taking during all business meetings and managing the issues raised
  • Provide cover for the Finance Manager during holidays and sickness
  • Assist Finance Manager with various systems/processes on improvement projects

Experience & Skills

  • Intermediate level Excel with strong literacy and numeracy skills
  • GCSE in Maths and English
  • AAT level 3 or higher would be beneficial
  • SAP experience would be desirable
  • Well organised, flexible and enthusiastic
