About the role
As a Refugee Support Admin volunteer you would be helping the Refugee Support Team as they support refugees and asylum-seekers to adjust to life in a new country and access vital services.

The Red Cross has a long tradition of providing practical and emotional support to vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. Our Refugee Support work with thousands of beneficiaries every year in around fifty different towns and cities enabling people to draw upon their own strengths to withstand crisis and rebuild their lives.

We support refugees and asylum-seekers in a range of ways, from providing emergency provisions for those facing severe hardship to giving advice on how people can access services to which they are entitled. These services are provided in a safe and welcoming environment. None of this important work would be possible without the skill and enthusiasm of volunteers helping in a variety of ways.

This role might be for you if...
You have good interpersonal, diplomacy, communication and teamwork skills. We keep the beneficiary at the heart of what we do, working to understand their needs and the difference we make. Also someone who will consistently:

• Empathetic about the situation and needs of refugees.
• Able to keep the service user at the heart of what you do, supporting the Red Cross to understand service user needs and the difference our role makes.
• Knowledgeable about database systems.
• Able to speak good English; plus knowledge of a foreign language would be useful (particularly one used in the current local refugee population).
• Willing to uphold the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and adhere to the Society's Equal Opportunities

Your main tasks would be...
Assisting the Refugee Support project coordinator with setting up activities
Creating information packs or collating resources for the department and service users
Helping with record keeping and other administrative tasks

We value the energy and enthusiasm that young people bring to this role. Anyone can volunteer with the Red Cross from the age of 15. An individual risk assessment, parental consent and safeguarding considerations will be required for those aged 15 - 17.
