Ranked Tier 1 by both Chambers and Legal 500, we have a "highly regarded team??? acting on big ticket transactions" (Legal 500) which is " top quality, flexible and efficient " (Chambers). It comprises 5 partners and over 20 solicitors.
Work
Our banking and finance team advise borrowers, lenders and sponsors on a variety of debt (and debt-related) transactions. Transaction sizes vary from GBP1 million to GBP1 billion but our core market is debt of GBP20 million to GBP100 million.
Clients include UK and international banks, debt funds, investment funds and corporates including listed plcs.
Key areas of expertise are Real Estate Finance (including offices, hotels, student accommodation, care homes and housing), Energy and Infrastructure Finance, Transport Finance and Acquisition Finance. We also regularly advise on mainstream corporate debt derivatives and asset finance and, security structures.
While the team is based in Bristol, most of our work originates in London and the rest of the UK (we also carry out Scots law work within the team). For cross-border matters, we work closely with our preferred firm international network.
Requirements
You should have an excellent academic record, coupled with recent relevant experience gained from a firm with a strong banking and finance practice, together with a sound commercial understanding of the market.
You should have experience of a range of different debt financings and structures. In particular you should have a good working knowledge of drafting LMA-based documents.
As the team also carries out some Scots law banking work (we have three dual qualified lawyers), we also welcome applications from Scottish qualified solicitors but this is not a requirement.
The firm will support and fund for you to become dual qualified (if you're not already English law qualified), including study leave and exam hotel expenses.
