This role is managing the logistics operation of the automation system but from a business logic point of view which is where logistics experience comes in. However the business logic is executed by the software which is where the software knowledge / experience comes in. So through the software channel, a software engineer who is looking to getting into a less back end engineering and more customer facing / management position or IT managers would make very good candidates for this position.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Overview of the role:
Working closely with the customer and internal staff. Providing improvements to customers, from identifying problems or possible improvements to the Automated Warehouse, problem resolution and managing the issue, until the problem is resolved and implemented on-site. Throughout this process also keeping the customer up-to-date with the project as it is being resolved and implemented.
The task of a Logistic Operations Engineer (LOE) is to make sure a company's logistic operations, such as manufacturing and shipping, work properly and meet customers and specifications, which are measured through key performance indicators. An Operations Engineer handles all matters to do with the logistic operations and its machinery such as Incident, Problem and Change Management.
The role of an LOE therefore combines supervisory, technical, training and administrative responsibilities. Another function is the coordination between us and our customer to fine-tune the operations. They work as part of a team for a customer and interact with Hotline (HQ) and computer systems, software, physical technology (machinery), engineers and end users to increase stability, efficiency and establish best practices. Operations engineers can train other personnel to use existing, changed or new software and machinery integration.
Key Responsibilities:
Tasks and functions
Increase stability
Identifies operational issues by observing and analysing the system function and performance of results
Continuously analysing and improving the operational process (measure = throughput)
Leads and supervises troubleshooting procedures such as;
* Incident Management (measure = time to resolve, SLA)
* Problem Management (measure = time to complete development cycle)
* Change Management (measure = % of successful CRs)
Identifies operational priorities by assessing operational objectives (measure = uptime)
* Continuous Improvement Process (measure = ITIL compliance, TPX Dashboard)
Investigating complaints and suggestions
Increase efficiency
Develops operational solutions by defining, studying, estimating, and screening alternative solutions
* Determine impact on whole logistic system
* Continuous Improvement Process
Anticipates operational issues by studying operational targets, modes of operation, limitations
* Monitoring technical availability (measure = CMMS, Logistic Dashboard)
* Monitoring performance (measure = Logistic Dashboard)
Establish "Best practice"
Improves operational quality results by studying, evaluating, and recommending process re-design
* Supervision of Implementing changes
* Change Management
Contributing information and opinion to unit design and modification teams
* Continuous Improvement Process
Provides operational management information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing operational and engineering data for future trends and developments

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
* Ideally someone with good knowledge of Logistics and Warehouse Management Systems.
* Experience of Automated warehouses.
* Have a degree/tertiary qualification in one of the following disciplines:
* Bachelor's Degree in Business and/or Logistics (preferred) or related field, or equivalent experience
* An understanding of warehouse operations and supply chain management
* 3-5 years related experience in warehousing, high volume manufacturing, distribution, production planning and/or transportation environment
* Knowledge of WMS and WCS
* An engineering industry background complimented by recognised experience
* Operational experience within and automated distribution facility
* Strong skills in report development
ITIL Foundation
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Self-motivated and a proactive approach to problem solving
* Proven organisational skills
* Customer focused
* Strong interpersonal skills
* Team orientated
Able to lead and motivate others & able to work autonomously with a minimum of supervision
