Company & Role Overview
Our client is a leading manufacturer of products supplying the Aerospace Industry. They have a long established history of providing products to the markets they serve, whilst evolving their offering to advance their customer delivery capability. They have plans to significantly expand in the next few years and in order to support them on this growth journey they have an exciting opportunity within their senior leadership team for an Operations Director.
Reporting to the VP/Managing Director, the role of the Operations Director is a senior position in the Company and is required to ensure that all the parts of the operations/production process come together to deliver the correct quality of the final product. By liaising and understanding all aspects of production, the Operation Director oversees the delivery of all aspects of sales order fulfilment.
Overall, this role is vital for ensuring that a strong reputation is maintained in the marketplace. Acting as a conduit between different departments providing important feedback and communication.
Responsibilities
• Provide tactical and strategic guidance and be responsible for developing and implementing all operational aspects of the business plan.
• Responsible for operating performance; e.g. safety, adherence to quality standards, achieve the sales plan, operating costs, execution of the inventory plan, manpower planning, on-time delivery, operational planning, etc.
• Working closely with Functional Directors and Senior Managers to ensure execution of the operational processes aligns to the defined strategic directon of the business.
• Improve factory performance by executing lean manufacturing initiatives such as 5S, CI and Kaizen while maintaining focus on Quality improvements.
• Lead the Operations line management teams to effectively manage and monitor performance within the Operations function to achieve defined objectives and KPI's.
• Ensure performance/process issues are identified and resolved in a timely manner.
• Establish, and then execute, a plan for Operational Excellence in the operational working environment, work processes and activities.
• Develop a fully resourced and capable Operations workforce with the right skills and motivation to deliver the required results and with high standards of quality.
• Support effective communication channels and a productive information flow to ensure management control and support operational processes and facilitate collaborative working across the business.
• Motivate, train and mentor to continually develop Operations Team.
• Drive Continuous Improvement to maximise profit and reduce waste.
• Take accountability for Health and Safety in accordance with the H&S Policy.
• Lead by example, promote and act in accordance with the Company Values, systems, policies and procedures.
What are we looking for?
• Relevant degree (Technical or Engineering) or equivalent experience.
• Proven track record of managing the Operational aspects of a site within a highly regulated Industry is essential.
• Proven strategic and performance leadership capability; able to initiate and lead change, delivers tangible results, demonstrates toughness under pressure and a can-do attitude.
• Ability to apply strategic focus to the practical operation of the business and define business objectives and priorities.
• Proven ability to successfully handle multiple projects and meet critical deadlines.
• Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to relationship-building, both internally and externally.
• A strong people leader; involves and empowers others, coaches and mentors within and outside of own team.
• Practical and positive with a flexible and conscientious approach to work load, acts as a strong role model to others.
