Phoenix Domestic Abuse Services are seeking to appoint a caring and motivated individual to provide support to those affected by domestic abuse within the Blaenau Gwent area.

31.5 Hrs per Week

Salary £21,112.65 per annum

The Victim Safety Officer will be based in Phoenix House, Blaina, but will be required to work throughout the borough providing support and information to those affected by domestic abuse. The Victim Safety Officer will also identify and maintain effective working links with new and existing key partners to the project and, to increase the profile borough wide through networking and publicity.

Responsibilities and Tasks

The Victim Safety Officer duties are:-

  • To assist in providing a non-judgemental and confidential service to victims of domestic abuse in Blaenau Gwent
  • To provide direct support around risk management and issues relating to safety
  • To create action plans with clients and assist them to become more confident and independent
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous client records
  • To provide support to clients through the criminal justice and civil law process.
  • To reduce risk and increase safety of clients
  • To provide up to date information and support to clients
  • To keep up to date with services in the area relevant to clients
  • Develop links and liaise with key partners
  • Attending and reporting to Management Committee meetings and Steering Groups
  • Preparation of reports as necessary for purposes such as court and Children’s Services
  • Identify relevant funding opportunities
  • Works in accordance with the organisations policies and procedures
  • Attend regular supervision sessions with the Victim Safety Manager
  • Undertake relevant training courses
  • Any other reasonable duties agreed with the Management Committee

Monitoring and Evaluation

The Victim Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring that accurate records are kept of all activities and will be involved in regular reviews and forward planning.

Person Specification

Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience of working with vulnerable people (Essential)
  • Clear understanding of the impacts of domestic abuse (Essential)
  • Geographic knowledge of Blaenau Gwent area (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of services and other organisations in Blaenau Gwent (Desirable)
  • Have relevant qualifications and/or experience (Desirable)

Skills and Abilities

  • Able to work on their own initiative but also work as part of a team (Essential)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – written and verbal (Essential)
  • Ability to work under pressure (Essential)
  • A car owner-driver (Essential)
