Registered Manager – Short Breaks Service (children’s home) SEAR76239
Location: Cheadle Hulme, near Manchester Airport, SK8 6RQ
Salary range: £42,260 - £46,956 per annum + benefits

Hours: 37.5 hours per week plus on call rota and flexibility to work evening and weekend shifts
Type: Permanent
Holidays: Year 1 is 33 days, rising to 38 including bank holidays after 5 years

Role Summary

Our client is looking for an inspirational Registered Manager to join their innovative and ambitious organisation for their children’s home in their Short Breaks Service.

They are a national charity supporting children and young adults with severe, profound and complex learning disabilities, sensory impairment and additional communication and physical needs from across the UK. They provide care and education, for children aged 3-18 years old and young adults aged 19-25 years old.

Reporting to the Director of Care, this role will manage a four bedroom children’s home for their Short Breaks Service to ensure the highest standards of care in place for the children. The role will be supported by an Assistant Manager and an overall staff team of 20 talented Support Workers. This exciting opportunity will also be responsible for the set-up of a new registration for the home.

The Registered Manager will work within and quality assure the care delivered against Ofsted’s Quality Standards and any additional relevant legislation and will hold the registration for this Children’s Short Breaks Home with Ofsted.


• Demonstrable experience working as a Registered Manager in a short breaks service working with children with learning disabilities and complex needs
• Experience of management in a care setting and understanding of OFSTED's Quality Standards in Children’s Homes
• Strong line management skills and experience
• Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding legislation and procedures
• Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (QCF)
• Experience of disability, mental health and autism spectrum conditions
• Experience of administering medication
• Ability and commitment to manage and support staff to enable cohesive and effective team working
• Ability to work on your own initiative, within agreed procedures and parameters
• Previous experience establishing effective communication with children / young people, staff, relatives, external agencies and other professionals
• Good written and verbal communication skills, with experience writing and maintaining reports and children’s notes, and the ability to communicate effectively with parents/staff/other professionals
• Ability to work as part of a multi- disciplinary team
• Ability to organise, support and co-ordinate group or individual activities that develop appropriate life skills and meet the children’s areas of interest
• Knowledge of communication strategies for non verbal learners
• Experience of Person Centred Planning and its application to support children / young people
• Flexible approach to work, including evenings and weekends
