Resident caretaker required for this active, friendly church as current caretaker is retiring soon.  Must have good practical skills and an outgoing manner to work with members of the local community, who use the large modern building extensively. 

Salary from £15,000 per annum, plus rent-free self-contained 2 bedroom flat, recently redecorated throughout, on premises. Utilities and Council Tax included.

Principal responsibilities and duties

Management of the building including:

  • Security of the building including locking up at night (usually by 10:30pm), supervising external users, using CCTV as necessary
  • Maintain the building, car park and surrounds to agreed standards
  • Prepare rooms for meetings and events to meet user requirements
  • Operate the heating system
  • Liaise with contractors including gas engineers, fire safety maintenance engineers, plumbers, electricians, window cleaners and other suppliers as required
  • Act as first line supervisor of the contract cleaners
  • Operate and monitor safety systems including regularly testing the fire alarm system and maintaining test log
  • Assist Line Manager with overall Health and Safety compliance of the building
  • Deal with general minor maintenance using external contractors as necessary
  • Assist with the operation of the AV system for Sunday morning services

Management of external bookings of church rooms (there are approximately 35 regular users plus approximately 25 occasional users during the year)

  • Maintain and coordinate the online bookings diary
  • Receive booking enquiries (phone calls and emails)
  • Take bookings and ensure booking form is completed and signed
  • Maintain a computer spreadsheet of bookings & report monthly to Lettings Treasurer for invoicing

Supervision of Church Car Park

  • Monitor unauthorised use; if necessary, issue penalty tickets and send details to enforcement company; Issue parking permits to church members
