Permanent, full time (37 hours per week)

Devon County Council are seeking an enthusiastic and inspirational person to lead and manage its Highways Operations Control Centre which operates 24/7 primarily to oversee a safe and efficient highway network. The role will also be instrumental in reshaping the HOCC so it is fit for the future as well as the present.

You will possess excellent communication skills and be comfortable engaging with local and national media, senior managers, members and stakeholders. You will be skilled at managing a team who cover the control room on a shift basis, taking operational decisions in a highways context, managing severe weather and emergency incidents and motivating staff in more routine operations.

You will be competent at using computer based systems, have a clear understanding of GDPR and operation of CCTV. Ideally you will have had experience with highways, traffic systems and interpreting weather information and its effect on the highways, particularly during winter. You will be required to support the control room out of hours and have a drive for continuous improvement. You will be required to undergo a level of Police Vetting.
