Product Development Mechanical Engineer | Hi-Tech Scientific Company
Oxford, OX11 0RL
Highly Competitive & Negotiable Dependant on Experience

We are a fast-growing start-up company founded in 2015 developing innovative high-performance gas sensing solutions.

The company is backed by 4 supportive private investors who share the excitement of the management team of the company about the bright prospects for the business going forward. A recent fundraising round has enabled the company to relocate to purpose built new premises with excellent facilities to support the growth and expansion of the company over the next few years.

The successful candidate will enjoy working in a technically demanding and rewarding environment as part of a strong team.

The Product Development Mechanical Engineer Role:

This new role will be critically important in the next stage of our development. You will be responsible for taking the current prototype product, which has already been successfully demonstrated in field trials, through to a commercial product for launch mid-2019. You will be expected to work both at a detailed level producing 3D design and modelling simulations, ensuring that documentation meets quality assurance requirements, as well as overseeing the effective integration of the opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical systems into a fully functioning robust and reliable final product.

Working with our multidisciplinary international team of scientific and technical colleagues, you will take responsibility for leading the engineering design integration and early manufacture of a new range of products using failure mode effect analysis, design for manufacture and assembly and lean manufacturing principles.

This is an exciting time to join the business which will shortly be bringing transformational technology to the world of gas sensing. This new technology will enable customers across a wide range of industries to address long standing measurement challenges thereby opening up further new opportunities for the company going forward.

Product Development Mechanical Engineer Required Skills:

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in the design, development and integration of highly complex products for demanding industrial applications.

+ Ideally educated to degree level in Mechanical Engineering with proven expertise (minimum 7-10 years) in the design and development of precision engineered products in an industrial environment
+ Expert user of Solid Works CAD design software with strong skills in performing design simulations (SW Simulation) and complex tolerance stack analysis (SW Flow & SW Electrical)
+ Experience in thermal management and design for both passive and actively cooled systems using COMSOL or equivalent. In addition, experience with Matlab, Python and Ansys analysis software would be advantageous
+ Expertise in high precision opto-mechanical design aspects would be an advantage

In order to ensure the final product design meets the performance requirements of a range of demanding applications, you will have a good knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes with the flexibility to work both with in house designed and assembled parts as well as incorporating third party components to deliver the best solution.

In your career to date you will have demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills with an ability to create innovative solutions to overcome challenges in product development. You are effective at planning and are highly organised in your work combined with good communication and strong team working skills.
