The University of Edinburgh is a world-leading centre of academic excellence committed to making a significant, sustainable and socially responsible contribution to Scotland, the UK and the world. In the top 20 of the QS World Rankings, in one of the world's most beautiful cities, the University provides a world-class education for over 35,000 students across its programmes of study.

The School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences (PPLS), is one of the largest and most successful multi-disciplinary Schools in the UK as demonstrated through our global reach and impact. We offer a rich and diverse learning and research environment for our staff and students, with close links between our subject areas, alongside other world-class research areas across the University and beyond.

We seek to appoint a new Head of School with outstanding leadership skills, an academic background in one of our cognate disciplines, and the confidence and vision to lead the School of PPLS and inspire our large and diverse academic community.

This a full time, open ended role. Salary will be on the Professorial scale.

The successful candidate, if they do not already hold a Chair with the School, will be appointed to a Chair located within the most appropriate Subject of the School, upon which the Chair will be the successful candidate's open-ended post.
The Headship of the School is normally undertaken for an initial period of 5 years, with the possibility of an option to extend for a further period.

The School of Philosophy, Psychology & Language Sciences particularly welcomes applications from candidates belonging to groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in the subject areas, including, but not limited to, women and ethnic minorities.
