Senior Planning Accountant

The Finegreen Group is working in partnership with an NHS organisation based in the London that requires an experienced interim Senior Planning Accountant for a minimum four-month assignment commencing in January.

The purpose of this post is to provide financial support to the Head of Financial Planning and to deliver high quality strategic and professional advice to senior management in the Business Development, Transformation Teams and across the Trust. In addition, the successful candidate will lead on the completion, monitoring and regular update of the Trusts Long Term Financial Model (LTFM) and to ensure it is in line with the Trusts Integrated Business Plan (IBP)

Please note that the post holder will have significant experience of the annual budget setting process for the NHS and completing the Annual Financial Planning template for NHSI.

Key responsibilities will include;
  • Ensure that the Business Planning and Strategy team, Finance team, Transformation team and PMO is adequately supported by finance staff in developing individual integration projects, including those of a clinical nature, medium-term services and financial strategy;
  • Manage financial advice and support to management with regards to service development proposals. This will include the development of complex spreadsheets and databases to facilitate the manipulation of timely financial information to assist the planning of service developments;
  • Ensure that teams across corporate and clinical divisions can deliver a coherent input to the Trust's annual and long-term financial planning processes;
  • Interpret and understand in-year complex financial data to identify trends and areas of concern;
  • Work with Trust colleagues to develop in-year financial strategies necessary to meet the financial requirements of the Board and senior management teams;
  • Work with Trust colleagues to develop robust investment cases, providing support, challenge and rigour;
  • Provide effective management and control so that the Trust meets its statutory financial duties;
  • Assist in the planning for and implementation of new strategies to respond to changes in the Transformation Team's financial regimes, thus ensuring maximum benefit is achieved by the Transformation Team;
  • Work with Head of Financial Planning and the Associate Director of Finance to develop financial strategies necessary to meet the Trust's financial requirements;
  • Plan, implement, monitor, review and ensure the development of financial systems in use within the Financial Planning and Pro Support teams, ensuring value for money, efficiency and quality.
Key experience and skills will include;
  • Appropriate professional finance qualification (e.g ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA), or equivalent;
  • Evidence of continued professional development;
  • Working within an Acute Healthcare or similar sized organisation within a project or Integration management office for at least 3 years;
  • Substantial experience of working autonomously and independently with senior stakeholders to deliver project objectives;
  • Has led or contributed to transition or change management projects;
  • Excellent skills of influencing, persuasion and negotiation;
  • Strong grasp of, and ability to analyse financial data;
  • Proven ability to present ideas clearly and succinctly - both verbally (including presentations) and in writing;
  • Advanced IT skills, particularly in financial software, Office products and presentation aids;
  • Strong political awareness, and evidence of working well within highly sensitive environments;
  • Full knowledge of the NHS financial regime.
