The Research Scientist will lead the advancement of Audible Magic's audio & video identification and classification technologies. Our Research Scientists investigate, invent, and prototype Audible Magic's next generation of services. The candidate will leverage and hone his/her robust skills in the areas of signal processing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence for audio, music, video, and speech analysis, identification and classification. As a Research Scientist at Audible Magic, the candidate must be passionate about music and have the desire to become a world‐class expert in audio/video recognition and understanding.

Key responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:

  • Discover, investigate, and prototype next-generation services for customers in the global music and media industry;
  • Identify research opportunities and define problems through collaboration with customer account management, product management, engineering, and customers directly;
  • Synthesise knowledge from different areas and customer environments in new ways;
  • Leverage research from industry and academia;  
  • Improve industry best practices in signal processing, machine learning, artificial intelligence frameworks and methodologies for audio, music, speech, and video analysis;
  • Conduct research, prototypes, create proof of concepts, write research papers/reports, submit patents and present digestible research results; and 
  • Collaborate with product management, engineering and other groups to transfer the research technology to new products and services for our customers. 

Skills, qualifications and experience required 
The candidate must possess the following attributes:

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM major;
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a relevant (music/audio) research role; 
  • Demonstrable track record of innovation and creativity in audio, music, video domains;
  • Does not fear but embraces programming languages and tools:  C, C#, Python or whatever is best for the solution - we care more about proclivity than specific language experience;
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative problem-solving ability;
  • Advanced mathematical and computer science knowledge foundation: algorithms, design, architecture, performance;
  • Familiarity with machine learning, optimization, indexing, hashing, sketching, classification;
  • Hands-on experience with signal processing, especially for audio, music, speech, and video - especially on the analysis side;
  • Passionate about audio/music/video; and 
  • A love of research.
