Devon County Council’s Traffic Management Group is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated and keen Senior Highways Coordination Officer to supervise a small team monitoring compliance and managing coordination of street works activity on Devon’s highways. Excellent supervisory, communication and negotiating skills will be used as you are in regular liaison with representatives from utility companies, their contractors, agents or promoters to discuss notices and determine the timing of works, relative to network demands ensuring the highway asset is protected.

You will be familiar with legislation related to highways and traffic management, particularly the Traffic Management Act 2004 and New Roads & Street Works Act 1991. You will apply levels of discretion and professional judgement to detailed information, recording and assessing it, using IT systems to research and identify conflicts or offences. A flexible approach is necessary across all tasks within the team and you will be required to assimilate specialist knowledge in various areas.

As well as being allocated projects you will oversee and allocate specific works projects to others as they arise. At times you will be required to prepare reports on procedures, deal with complaints and gather relevant information to support any action being taken by the authority. Occasionally, you will be expected to travel to meetings and lead or support team members at meetings on works projects. You will convene team performance meetings, arrange training and encourage and mentor team members to achieve common goals. You will ensure your team works in support of the County Council’s declared strategic objectives while always demonstrating integrity and professionalism.

This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English. Personal data we collect from you will be processed in accordance with the Applicant privacy notice.
