About the role
The Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) is a 5-year GBP1.5Bn fund led by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) which operates across a number of delivery partners, including the UK Research Councils, UK Higher Education Funding bodies, the Academy of Medical Sciences, Royal Society, British Academy, the Royal Academy of Engineering and UK Space Agency.
As one of a number of Challenge Managers, you will be embedded in a Research Council as appropriate for one of six strategic GCRF Challenge areas. You will work strategically and closely with the GCRF Challenge Leaders who are responsible for the building and success of the six strategic GCRF Challenge portfolios but will be focussed on Food Systems strategic challenge portfolio.
You will work with the Challenge Leaders by operationalising portfolio strategies and visions and by taking forward and implementing portfolio work packages. You will also strategically relate and link the Challenge Leaders' activities to existing initiatives within individual Research Councils, across UKRI and other GCRF delivery partners.
You will represent the Challenge Leaders as required on external and internal meetings and events plus hosting and presenting to delegations visiting UKRI.
There will be a requirement for travel across the UK and possibly overseas, including travel to Development Assisted Counties; staying overnight as and when necessary.
About you
You will have relevant subject matter/portfolio knowledge and expertise and experience of strategy implementation.
You must have a Degree or equivalent experience, a master's Degree or PhD is preferred.
You must have experience of writing and communicating complex reports and documentation, particularly the ability to present complex information concisely under tight deadlines.
You will have strong liaison, networking, negotiation and presentations skills.
Knowledge of the UK research funding and community would be beneficial as well as experience of managing research projects and/or research administration experience.
