Are you keen to understand the information system that supports scholarly research, from metrics and evaluation through to the very culture of research? Perhaps you're a researcher, looking for a different way to contribute to the development of science than from within your own field? Or perhaps you may be someone with solid coding skills looking for a fresh challenge using big data? If this sounds like you, we have a role for you!
At Elsevier, we help researchers, clinicians and research institutions advance science, drive the best outcomes in healthcare, and energize educators. Every day, we enable insight for the research and healthcare communities. Every day, we cultivate global collaboration. Every day, we are empowering the world's clinicians and researchers to achieve even more.
As Market Intelligence Manager you join a small team of people with varied backgrounds and the shared aim of delivering high-quality information, insights and recommendations to colleagues that enable their decision-making. We work with journal publishing, product management, marketing, sales and strategy teams to name but a few. We use an array of tools to gather and analyse market and competitor information, from large journal and book citation databases to the public web. The work environment is fast-paced and varied, and you will have day-to-day responsibility for supporting ongoing projects as well as ad hoc work.
The team
The Market Intelligence (MI) team is based in our Oxford office and has recently retooled with Databricks and Tableau for big data handling and visualisation. Your responsibilities
- Support the development of our data and reporting systems for understanding the research information market, plumbing large datasets for insights
- Acquire and assess external data as new sources of insight
- Use the market intelligence you create to advise colleagues on strategic planning and new opportunities

- Critical thinking skills and attention to detail
- Good communication skills and a team attitude
- Competency in data handling and analytics: ideally working knowledge of SQL and Python

- 25 days of leave
- Flexible working arrangements & workplace health offerings
- Numerous training, coaching and e-learning modules for long term development and job opportunities
