The Manufacturing Engineer will be working both within the Research & Development team and in the rest of the Manufacturing organisation, developing a wide range of products and processes.
This position will involve undertaking all aspects of the introduction of new products into manufacturing. The Manufacturing Engineer will be working closely with the design engineers, this person would be expected to take responsibility for ensuring process capability to achieve SQCDE requirements and regulatory compliance of new product introductions and of changes to existing products.
Delivering project deliverables within planned project & product cost constraints and timescales.
The Manufacturing engineer will provide manufacturing engineering expertise & knowledge in support of the Manufacturing organisation goals.
The manufacturing engineer will protecting manufacturing from inappropriate decisions eg. Large batch quantities, high risk of obsolescence or non-standard components.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Supply advice & direction to design engineers
• Reviewing design concepts and components
• Communicating effectively to R&D engineers, manufacturing policies and procedures relevant to product design, PFMEAs
• Design & introduce new manufacturing processes as required by NPI plans
• Design, planning and commissioning production line layouts/cells in NPI activities
• Specifying & procuring production equipment for NPI
• Provide ongoing support to maintain and improve production QCD
• Planning, progressing & coordinating work packages to defined timescales & budget
• Preparing manufacturing documentation required for product manufacture
• Leading documenting and progressing actions from PFMEAS
• Leading & documenting process verification & validation exercises in line with Design Control procedures
• Transfer & set up of IFS manufacturing data including routings
• Generation of engineering change requests to design change control procedures
• Implementing of approved engineering change orders
• Review & approve manufacturing drawings
• Design & implementation of component supply and finished product systems (e.g. Kanban, pulls systems), DFM, PFMEA
• Produce cost estimates for new designs
• Liaising with suppliers to ensure high QCD for supplied parts
• Maintain knowledge base of contemporary manufacturing philosophies and processes
• Maintain an up to date knowledge of appropriate regulatory standards
• Conversion of design data to machine tool instructions & programs (e.g. CNC, pick & place, punch press etc.)
• Design & procurement of production jigs & tools, PFMEAs
• Manufacturing data control
• Assisting with new staff recruitment
• Project stage cost, effort & time estimation
Experience/Qualifications
HND or HNC in an engineering discipline
3D & 2D CAD using Solidworks
PFMEAs. DFM,
Familiarity with relevant design software tools
Use of IFS - Engineering & Projects/ Repetitive Manufacturing
Ability to Interpret Engineering Drawings
Computer & IT literacy, familiarity with Office software tools
Good written & oral communication skills
Ability to work as part of a team
Project Management expertise using Microsoft Project
Good problem solving & analytical skills
Methodical & good attention to detail
Knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques & QCD targets
2+ years working in an engineering or manufacturing environment
