Mobile working, two regional locations: London and the South / North and the Midlands

Full time, fixed term contract for 12 months


ASCL is seeking to appoint a National Negotiator to negotiate with employers to safeguard and improve working conditions and benefits of school and college leaders in England and Wales.


This is an exciting opportunity to occupy a national role at the forefront of the profession at a time of considerable change. The post-holder will ensure that all negotiations engaged in are compliant with the relevant employment and education legislation and regulations; that our members’ rights and benefits are protected and that the Association fulfils its contractual obligations. Part of a small team of committed and expert policy makers, they will also work with other stakeholders to help to protect and promote the interests of ASCL members and create fairness and equality at work.


ASCL Negotiators are paid on a five point incremental range from £45,515 to £50,271 per annum starting at £45,515 which is £27,309 per annum at 0.6 pro rata. Reasonable travel and out-of-pocket expenses are also covered. The post-holder will be home based and mobile working with IT and telephone equipment provided as significant travel on most days will be required, including the need for overnight stays some weeks.


With proven experience in a relevant field, you’ll have a career with credibility, enabling you to work alongside experienced school leaders. Ideally you will have experience of trade unions or, working in a similar role or as an experienced HR professional. It would be advantageous to have a working knowledge of issues related to the pay, conditions and employment of school and college leaders.


We offer a generous pension scheme, to which the association contributes 9%.
