Its core business, OVO Energy is the leading alternative energy supplier in the UK providing power and gas to 900,000 customers. In addition, OVO Group provides a range of energy related technologies and services such as home heating insurance and intelligent energy products.

As the largest independent supplier in the world’s most developed energy market, OVO is expanding its activities to new markets outside the UK. We have decided to establish energy supply licences in several new markets during 2019 and 2022. We are looking for a Financial Controller to support the creation of these new businesses.

What you’ll be doing:

Based in Bristol, the Financial Controller (International) will report into the acting Head of International as well as the OVO Finance team. You will have responsibility for company administration and the financial reporting of OVO’s new international retail businesses.

Key objectives;

- Financial Control; to ensure resources are directed, monitored and measured in an accurate and timely manner and to maintain a ‘No Surprises Environment’
- Financial Planning; to allocate future resources beneficially to OVO Retail and to introduce a clear method to achieve these plans
- Support business goals

The Financial Controller will be responsible for the following areas (non-exhaustive):

- Oversee new company registration processes in each market
- Support the set-up of basic company systems and processes such as bank accounts, purchase orders and invoicing, HR systems and payroll, employment contracts, bookkeeping, insurance etc
- Support the setting of budgets and financial planning
- Work with the Head of International and the local in-country teams to support day-to-day activities such as payment processing in line with company processes
- Take responsibility for compliance and all accounting and tax activities for the company, within each jurisdiction.
- Accountable for the accuracy of all monthly financial information
- Support with the audit process for international entities
- Work with the wider finance team to integrate financial reporting and ERP software between international businesses and the rest of the Group
- Manage financial aspects of key supplier relationships

We’d love to hear from you if you...

- Are passionate about the renewable energy and consumer businesses
- Have a high degree of initiative and a commercial, entrepreneurial mindset
- Have experience of accounting and company administration, preferably in multiple jurisdictions
- Are a qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA or ACCA) with at least 5 years’ professional experience
- Are comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment and who is comfortable proposing, justifying, initiating and implementing change.
- Are a team player - good open communicator and collaborator - keeps colleagues up-to-date, shares and learns without prompting.

Desirable Knowledge and skills

- Preferably a Big 4 background
- Experience of multiple jurisdictions a plus
- Foreign language skills a plus (any of Italian, French, German, Spanish or Dutch)
