Assistant Accountant, Hertfordshire - Permanent

Salary up to GBP35k depending on experience+ Benefits

An established company are looking to expand their existing accounts team and looking to recruit an Assistant Accountant.

Working as part of a busy finance department you will be working closely with senior accounting staff providing support to the accounts team. This will include being responsible for maintaining and managing cash books, sales, purchase and nominal ledgers. Reconciling statements using Sage and completing balance sheets.

To be considered for this role candidates must have good all -round accounts and book keeping experience, in particular balance sheet reconciliations and be a confident user of Sage and Microsoft Office with good knowledge of Excel.

Responsibilities

* Maintaining and managing cash books, sales, purchase and nominal ledgers

* Processing supplier and employee expenses payments

* Preparing borrower statements and reconciling them to Sage nominal ledgers

* Completing balance sheet and bank reconciliations, verifying balances in Sage and rectifying all discrepancies

* Entering financial information into Sage

* Processing all business expenses

* Managing day-to-day transactions

* Assisting the finance department and senior accounting staff members with various tasks, including preparing statements, maintaining records and filing

* Reporting on debtors and liaising with the Asset Management Department

* Calculation and posting month end accruals and prepayments

* Posting payroll journals

* Maintaining fixed asset registers, calculating and posting depreciation journals

* Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts

* Dealing with external auditor requests and queries

Experience & Skills required

* Ideally AAT qualified or ACCA/CIMA part-qualified

* Confident and practical bookkeeper with the ability to cope with relatively high volumes of data input

* Previous experience in balance sheet reconciliations

* Must be Flexible and hands on

* Sage Accounts and Sage Payroll user experience

* Proficient user of Excel with competent Microsoft Office

* Able to work on own initiative

* Strong written and verbal communication skills
