The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development was founded in 1991 when communism was crumbling in Europe and ex-Soviet countries needed support to nurture a new private sector and democracy. Today we invest to help build market economies from central Europe to central Asia and the southern and eastern Mediterranean. We are now the largest single investor in our region. Owned by 65 countries and two intergovernmental institutions, we provide project financing for banks, industries and businesses. We also work with publicly owned companies to support privatisation, restructure state-owned firms and improve municipal services. Wherever we are active, we promote policies that bolster the business climate.

This is the second of two roles we are recruiting for in our London HQ within the Loan Syndications team.
The role of syndication is embedded in the mobilisation mandate of the Bank, as found in the Bank's articles. The Principal Banker, in order to attract additional co-financing, markets EBRD projects to other financial institutions on a deal-by-deal basis, taking into account the interests of the Bank's clients and the guidelines of the EBRD's co-financing mandate.
The Principal Banker in Loan Syndications is responsible for leading the syndication process of specific deals throughout the project cycle in close co-operation with the banking operation leader of the relevant loan transaction.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
Internal team work
* Preparing team marketing materials, pitch-books and reports, to ensure successful promotion of the team's activities both internally and externally.
* Providing guidance to junior staff, where appropriate.
Syndication work
* Managing the external syndication / co-financing process with EBRD's financings partners including negotiation of legal agreements, smoothly integrating deal syndication into the deal flow, ensuring that client needs are met efficiently.
* Supervising the preparation of information memoranda and other material necessary for syndication, ensuring that the Bank succeeds in attracting high quality investors.
* Structuring and negotiating terms acceptable to market partners in order to ensure that client financing needs are appropriately met.
* Advancing strong working relationships and dialogue/co-operation with all client groups, to ensure effective syndicated loan product delivery.
Market interaction
* Identifying suitable investors for individual Bank debt projects and knowing which debt deal structures can be placed at what price.
* As instructed, undertaking general marketing to potential co-financiers and interacting with co-financing institutions to broaden and educate the investor base on EBRD projects, in order to ensure that clients receive best possible deal structure and pricing.
Market knowledge
* Gathering and maintaining market data for team use and internal reporting of market trends, ensuring accurate and timely communication of market trends for loan pricing and structuring.
* Sharing relevant market information with OpsCom to enable best decisions on project structure and pricing.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications
* Thorough understanding of credit, investment and financial analysis and their application in investment decisions and transaction structuring, probably gained in 1) a major commercial or development bank or 2) corporate or project finance group of a major international organisation.
* Proven business judgement and high ethical and professional standards.
* Networking skills, and ability and endurance to manage transactions through to their conclusion.
* Sound decision making skills, problem- and conflict resolution and ability to participate in teams.
* Good relevant degree from a leading university in the country of education.
* Very good oral and written communication skills in English.
