An excellent Tutor with experience teaching Personal Social Development and a activities related subject is required to work as a Social Inclusion Tutor within an excellent education department, at a Young Offenders Prison in County Durham on a permanent full-time basis.
The Prison is a Young Offenders Institute, holding adult males aged between 18 and 24. This role will involve teaching personal and social development skills to vulnerable young adults, with the aim of assisting them in building up skills and knowledge that will be essential when integrating back into society. The Social Inclusion tutor will be working with a group of learners and will involve subjects like team work, communication, inter-personal skills and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Emphasis is on the personal development of learners.
Candidates with experience in teaching PSD, PSHE, PSME or similar are required, who also possess experience of teaching or active involvement in sports, fitness, team-building or outdoor activities.
To be considered, suitable applicants will need the following:
- A level 5 teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS)
- Experience of teaching Personal Social Development or a similar subject
- Experience in teaching or active involvement with sports or adventure activities e.g. Duke of Edinburgh award.
Previous experience of working within a prison environment and prison clearance is highly sort after and anyone with this is strongly encouraged to apply.
In return you will be offered a salary between GBP23,000 and GBP29,000 with 25 days of holiday, plus 8 Bank Holidays. The working hours per week for full-time will be 37, starting from 8am until 4:45pm Monday - Thursday and 8am until 1pm on Fridays.
